Famous Sculptor Lei Yixin Hired as HUTB Part-Time Professor

On the afternoon of January 15, HUTB held an appointment ceremony of part-time professor in Conference Room 206 of the Technology Building, where Lei Yixin, a famous sculptor, was formally hired as HUTB part-time professor. The ceremony was attended by Chen Xiaohong, HUTB President and CAE Academician, Liu Guoquan, HUTB Vice President, andofficials from Party Committee Office and Principal Office, Personnel Division, School of Art & Design and School of Literature & Journalism, as well as faculty and student representatives from School of Art & Design. The ceremony was presided over by Vice President Liu Guoquan.


Chen Xiaohong, HUTB President and CAE Academician, presented to Professor Lei Yixin a letter of appointment, and warmly welcomed him for being part of HUTB. She pointed out that, the appointmentofProfessor Lei Yixin,a sculpture master with high reputation inside and outside China, as HUTB part-time professor will further enhance HUTB’s faculty capacity and promote its development. She stressed that the School of Art & Design should strengthen its ties with Professor Lei and solicit his guidance for new progress in art discipline construction, talent training and scientific research. She expressed the hope that Professor Lei will support the development of HUTB School of Art & Design and givehis advice for new breakthroughs in its development. She also expressed her wishthat Professor Lei and the School of Art & Design will work hand in hand to serve the cultural cause of the country, including Hunan province, tell a good story about China to the world, and disseminate Chinese and Hunan culture.

Professor Lei Yixin accepted the letter of appointment with pleasure. He said that under the leadership of President Chen Xiaohong and concerted efforts of all the teachers and students, HUTB is undergoing rapid development, as evidenced by continued improvement of overall strength, campus environment and infrastructure and the spirit of forging ahead in a vigorous manner. He said that he will earnestly fulfill his dutyas a professor, carry forward the spirit of HUTB, publicize its culture, and work with all HUTB teachers and students to build it into a first-class university.

Wu Can, dean of School of Art & Design, said that Professor Lei Yixin’s appointment as HUTB part-time professor can bring masterly art closer to our teachers and students. He said that the School of Art & Design will strengthen ties with Professor Lei and provide a quality platform for him to carry out histeaching and creation.

After the ceremony, Professor Lei Yixin also visited such sites of teaching as Chufeng Academy of Economic Management Comprehensive Complex, Sports Center, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Creative Park, and School of Art & Design. He spoke highly of the achievements made by HUTB in discipline construction, talent training, campus construction and cultural construction.

Professor Lei Yixin is an expert receiving the special government allowance of the State Council, the Hunan Provincial Excellent Expert and the national first-grade artist. He serves as vice president of Hunan People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, member of National Urban Sculpture Art Committee, vice president of Hunan Artists Association, director of Hunan Sculpture Institute. He is also the initiator and organizer of China (Changsha) International Sculpture Arts Festival. His representative works include theMartin Luther King Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., “Meditation” in Saint Paul, Minnesota, “Soul of Hunan” in Hunan Party History Museum, “Lei Feng WalksTowards Us” in Changsha Youth & Children’s Palace, “Mawangdui Totem Pole” in Xiangjiang Scenic Area, “Old Changsha” Huangxing Road Pedestrian Street, “Liuyang River” in Furong Plaza, “Crucial Moment” in Li County of Sichuan province, “People’s Victory”, “Flying Tigers” and “General Chennault” in Zhijiang Dong Autonomous County of Huaihua municipality and “Chinese Women’s Volleyball Team” in Beihu Park of Chenzhou city.
