Liu Qixiang, Dean of School of Law & Public Administration, Elected as Executive Director and Vice President of the 7th Council of Changsha Law Society

On the morning of January 12, the 7thMember Representative Congress of Changsha Law Society was held in the Changsha Conference Center. Officials from government departments including Changsha Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Changsha Municipal People's Government, Changsha Municipal People’s Congress, Changsha Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Changsha People’s Court, People’s Procuratorateof ChangshaCity, Changsha Public Security Bureau, Changsha Municipal Justice Bureau and the Politics and Law Committee of Changsha Municipal Committee of CPC, experts and academic representatives from universities including Central South University, Hunan University, Hunan Normal University and Hunan University of Technology and Business (HUTB), delegates from law societies at both district and county levels and delegates from Changsha Law Society attended the event. Liu Qixiang, Deanof School of Law & Public Administration, and Wen Zhang, secretary in charge of graduate affairs, attended as member representatives in the conference.



At the conference, the 6thCouncil of Changsha Law Society delivered a work report. The conference adopted by vote the election measures for the 7thCouncil of Changsha Law Society, the name list of the 7thCouncil candidates, and the name list of personnel proposed for employment by the academic guidance and advisory committee of the 7thCouncil, and elected the 7thCouncil directors and leading organ. Liao Jianhua, member of the standing committee of Changsha Municipal Committee of CPC and Secretary of the Politics and Law Committee of Changsha Municipal Committee of CPC, was elected as the president of the 7thCouncil of Changsha Law Society. DeanLiu Qixiang was elected as the executivedirector and vice president of the 7thCouncil, and also employed as member of the academic guidance and advisory committee of the 7thCouncil.

The conference pointed out that in the current stage and going forward, Changsha Law Society will further strengthen ideological and political guidance, carry out in-depth investigation and research, actively provide legal service, extensively engage in rule-of-law publicity, vigorously expand member service, lead law and legal practitioners to promotea peaceful Changsha ruled by law, play a leading role in implementing the “Three Highlands, Four NewMissions” strategy, and contribute legal wisdom and power to building Hunan province into a modernized, new demonstration zone.

In recent years, upholding the principle of keeping a foothold in Changsha, studying Changsha and servicingChangsha, Changsha Law Society has given full play to its role as a center of thoughts, talents and brainpower bykeeping with the priorities of Changsha Municipal Committee of CPC and Changsha Municipal People's Government. At present, it has more than 1700 individual and group members citywide. In response to the call to comprehensively implement the rule of law, law and legal practitioners citywide have played an important role in the fields of researchinglaw theory, training legal talents and building a society ruled by law, yielding fruitful results. Using the “Hundred Jurists, Hundred Seminars” program as a platform, Changsha Law Society provides training and interpretation sessions for Changsha’s political and legal systems concerning such topics as constitution-based governance, the civil code and the regulations on political and legal work. In the meanwhile, making full use of its advantages in organization and talent, it actively and effectively provides legal consulting and dispute settlement services. In particular, during the period of epidemic prevention and control, Changsha Law Society instructed its members to provide public legal service and to answer legal questions for free.
