“No one can be unaffected by the epidemic. We do what we can to support the anti-epidemic work,” said Shu Bin, a HUTB alumnus majoring in marketing in the class of 2008, when telling the reporter about his original intention. Shu Bin donated 370,000 medical protective masks to the Union Hospital of Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

Shu Bin serves as the founder of the community operation platform, “Haitunshenghuo”. With his business awareness, he predicted in the early stage of the outbreak that there would be a shortage of medical protective goods in the epidemic areas. So, he actively contacted a large number of suppliers with wide channels to quickly confirm the source of goods. The two batches of medical masks Shu Bin managed to purchase were finally transported to the Union Hospital on January 26 and 31, respectively. “Hospitals are the most susceptible to cross-infection. We need to leave the scarcest preventive materials to medical staff,” Shu Bin said.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, HUTB alumni have all responded to the national call. They took advantage of their business industries to donate materials to the society and worked together to fight the epidemic and overcome the difficulties. Hunan Cihui Medical Technology Co., Ltd., whose Chairman, Jiang Yonghui, graduated from HUTB, actively responded to the call of the Organization Department of the CPC Changsha Municipal Committee. On February 6, this company donated 1800 bottles of Healthy Antibacterial Liquid to Pozi Subdistrict, Tianxin District, Changsha, with a worth of RMB200,000. Such type of antibacterial liquid is safe and non-toxic, mainly applicable to antibacterial disinfection for hand skin. With remarkable effect, such antibacterial liquid can help the anti-epidemic workers on the frontline with disinfection and protection.

While actively contributing to the epidemic prevention in the affected areas and the residential communities, HUTB alumni also spared no effort to support their alma mater’s anti-epidemic work. Recently, Luo Junqiang, a HUTB alumnus majoring in accounting in the class of 1988 and current President of Shaoyang Alumni Association, helped HUTB procure a total of 19,600 masks when the University faced the shortage of anti-epidemic materials. “It’s my honor to do my part for my alma mater at the critical moment,” she said.

Furthermore, Ning Songkai, an alumnus majoring in marketing in the class of 1996, donated 25 thermometers to HUTB and 10,000 masks to the local hospitals; Alumnus Xie Hongbin donated 50 pairs of goggles to HUTB; Alumnus Zeng Wei donated 2 barrels of alcohol to HUTB. “In the face of the severe epidemic prevention and control situation, the alumni make timely and efficient donation, demonstrating their great love and responsibilities for HUTB,” said Zhang Hong, director of the Alumni Office.

Currently, alumni around the world are continuing donating goods for the epidemic prevention and control.
