[www.voc.com.cn] HUTB Students Utilize New Media Marketing Techniques to Promote Tourism Attraction in Hunan

www.voc.com.cn, June 13 (Reported by Correspondent Peng Sirui)-On the afternoon of June 10, the promotional event for culture and tourism themed “Plan Travel in Hunan, New Highlights in Marketing” of the 10thInternet Culture Festival of Hunan Province, hosted by the Office of Cyberspace Affairs of CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, the Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, the Youth League Committee of Hunan Province, and Hunan Daily, was concluded. After three months of fierce competition among 11 universities, including HUTB, Hunan University and Hunan Normal University, the “Team of Thirteen Artisans” representing HUTB won the third prize in terms of comprehensive scores, and ranked No.2 in terms of Tiktok statistics.

 


This competition received huge support from the Youth League Committee, the Party Committee Publicity Department, the Academic Affairs Division, and the School of Tourism Management. The “Team of Thirteen Artisans” is made up of 10 students in the disciplines of tourism management, hotel management and exhibition economy and management of the School of Tourism Management. Chen Wen, leader of the Department of Hotel Management, and Li Wanqiong, a teacher of the Department of Hotel Management, served as the instructors for the team. In recent years, the School of Tourism Management has won gold award of first prize and first prize in provincial tourism and hotel contests. However, for participating students and their instructors, this competition is very challenging, as it requires them to create video, images and texts via Tiktok and Weibo on the basis of the distinct resources of the tourism attraction in question, that is Linxiang Shisan Village in Yueyang. Comprehensive assessment is based on the number of video clips, number of views, number of thumbs-up, number of views on Tiktok, number of views on Weibo, results of evaluation of marketing plan and on-site defense, and score of tourist attraction. The team’s efforts to make use of such new media platforms as Tiktok, Weibo and Wechat yielded excellent results: the team produced 379 Tiktok short video clips, which received 12.96 million views and 160,000 thumbs-up; Weibo hashtag#Linxiang Shisan Village in Yueyang# received 33.19 million views. Moreover, the team organized a fashion show themed “Clothing of the Three Kingdoms Period in Shisan Village”, and developed tourism products such as “Sauce Culture Emoji”, “Creative Packaging Design for Sauce Products (Campus Version)” and “Three Kingdoms Banquet”. The team’s work not only demonstrates Shisan Village’s unique charm as a tourism attraction, but also contributes to rural revitalization and helps Hunan-based cultural and tourism enterprises to gain high popularity.

By taking advantage of their vigorous youth and Internet technology, HUTB students present a new picture of the geographic and cultural beauty of Hunan. It is one of the epitomes of the School of Tourism Management trying new things, exploring new areas and standing up to new challenges. It is one of the achievements of the school’s efforts to follow the trend of the times, encourage students to serve society and local economy, and nurture innovative, entrepreneurial, and application-oriented professionals. At the same time, it is an example of HUTB’s active efforts to transform the traditional training mode for tourism management professionals.
