Dear teachers, classmates, alumni, friends:
As mountains and seas flourish, a new journey begins. On the occasion of bidding farewell to the old year and welcoming the new, I would like to extend, on behalf of HUTB, our sincerest wishes for the New Year to all the hardworking students, faculty staffs, retired colleagues, alumni from home and abroad, and friends from all walks of life who have been working tirelessly.
Looking at the world as a whole, despite the intertwined changes in the global situation, the realization of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation has entered an irreversible historical process, and socialism with Chinese characteristics is demonstrating vigorous vitality. In the inaugural year of implementing the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, the people of HUTB, filled with patriotism and dedication to the country, are shouldering responsibilities and accelerating their pace on the journey to build a strong nation in education, science and technology, and talent. They are promoting the transformation of “Innovative HUTB”, “Cultural HUTB”, “Artistic HUTB”, “Sports HUTB”, “Digital Intelligence HUTB”, “Green HUTB” and “Happy HUTB” from a “freehand brushwork” to a “meticulous painting.” They are turning the beautiful plan into an inspiring reality step by step. The realization of becoming a first-class university of technology and business is accelerating!
We are pursuing excellence with a unified spirit and forging our souls as we chase our dreams of becoming first-class. We conscientiously regard the launch of thematic education as a significant political task, continue to enhance the brand of the “Lectures for Cadres” and invite more than 10 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as over 20 renowned experts and entrepreneurs to give lectures at our university. In the process of “learning ideology, strengthening Party spirit, emphasizing practice, and creating new achievements,” we have stirred up a strong momentum of development at our university. The Leading Group of Provincial CPC Committee on Thematic Education has given full recognition and multiple recommendations to our university. The case of rectification and remediation has been included in the case collection of the entire province as one of the five undergraduate universities. The effectiveness of the thematic education has promoted the high-quality development of our university.
We are pursuing our dreams of becoming first-class under the guidance of Party building. We are forging a first-class place to cultivate exemplary Party members, add a group of “model departments” and “exemplary branches” in Party building among the universities in the province. We have also recognized outstanding Party branch secretaries who serve as role models, exemplary positions for young faculty Party members, and exemplary positions in Party affairs. The HUTB Youth League Committee has been honored with the national title of “May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Committee”. HUTB maintains a strong Party spirit, with a clean campus environment and a positive academic atmosphere. The culture is vibrant and filled with a sense of clarity.
We are pursuing our dreams of becoming first-class as we strive to build a peak of success. The disciplines of Management Science and Engineering, Business Administration, Applied Economics, Law, Marxist Theory, and Design have been selected for the “Best Disciplines in China”. The addition of Engineering Science as a new discipline has placed it in the top 1% globally according to the ESI rankings. High-level disciplinary talents continue to gather, with the establishment of two “Huang Danian-style Teacher Teams” at the national level, as well as the addition of one teacher under the National High-level Talent Special Support Program and one expert enjoying the special allowance from the State Council. Additionally, there are 15 talents at various provincial and ministerial levels. The School of Marxism Studies has been recognized as a key provincial Marxist institute. The accelerated formation of an advantageous characteristic discipline system that integrates “New engineering courses + new business courses + new liberal arts courses” with science is taking place.
We are pursuing our dreams of becoming first-class as we strive to make technological contributions to our country. We have been approved for 9 national major key projects, including projects from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the National Key Research and Development Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation Special Projects, and the National Social Science Fund Major Projects. This achievement has reached a historical high, with research funding exceeding RMB200 million. Over 40 policy recommendations have been adopted by relevant national ministries and commissions, and our achievements have been selected as one of the “Top Ten Golden Strategies” by Hunan Thinktank. We have also received five scientific and technological awards, including the first-class prize in provincial scientific and technological progress award. By closely aligning with national strategies, we actively engage in organized scientific research, demonstrating vibrant vitality.
We are pursuing our dreams of becoming first-class as we build a highland. The physical operation of the Xiangjiang Laboratory, which we lead in constructing, has made strong progress. Collaborative research has achieved positive results through deep cooperation with various government units such as the Yueyang Municipal People’s Government, the Chenzhou Municipal Government, the Xiangjiang New Area, as well as leading enterprises such as Huawei, Baidu, and H3C. The construction achievements have received full recognition from the Secretary of Provincial CPC Committee, the Governor, the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education, and others. We have added 13 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research platforms. The university has been recognized as a “Hunan Province Technology Transfer Demonstration Institution,” leading to unprecedented strengthening in the transfer and transformation of scientific and technological achievements.
We are pursuing our dreams of becoming first-class as we improve the quality of education. We have once again won the second prize of teaching achievements at national level. The establishment of the “Integrated Circuit ‘Specialization, Expertise, and Innovation’ Industrial College” has been approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, achieving new breakthroughs. Additionally, we have added 6 undergraduate majors, including Industrial Engineering, and completed the construction and commissioning of 12 modern laboratories that focus on cutting-edge technologies and industry integration. Our teachers have won awards in various competitions, such as the National Higher Education Teaching Innovation Competition, and the quality of education has reached new heights.
We are pursuing our dreams of becoming first-class as we cultivate outstanding individuals. Our students have won 208 national awards and 427 provincial awards in a series of subject competitions, such as the national mathematics modeling competition, setting new records in both quantity and quality. Among them, we were the only university in the province to win the “Progressive Innovation Special Award” in the 18th “Challenge Cup” National College Student Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition. In the 8th higher education anti-corruption activities organized by the Ministry of Education, our university's award-winning works ranked first in the country. The university has been recognized as an excellent institution for the national “Sanxiaxiang Program” social practice. The average admission cutoff scores for the History and Physics majors in the provincial general discipline group ranked 4th and 6th among provincial universities. The initial employment rate of the Class of 2023 reached 91.22%, placing us at the forefront of universities in the province. The university's commitment to nurturing individuals has gained unprecedented confidence.
We are pursuing our dreams of becoming first-class as we create top-quality projects. From the groundbreaking ceremony at the Yueliangdao Campus to the imminent completion of the Hongya Apartment in the South Campus and the Zhuimeng Apartment in the North Campus; from the shining presence of buildings like the Zhuiguang Building, Cuwei Park, and the Feiwu Stadium (airfilm pavilion), to the debut of renovated structures like the Huichuan Building, Jinsuo Lake, and Xiangjiang Academy; from the refined operation of establishments like Zhiweixuan “Youth Bar” and Chufengxuan, the campus has undergone continuous transformation, achieving a minor change every year, a significant change every three years, a major change every five years, and a complete metamorphosis every ten years. Our renowned Xiangjiang Symphony Orchestra has collaborated with top-notch international art teams to present more than 20 captivating campus events. Over 40 renowned scholars have participated in the “Light of Humanities” and other “Cultural HUTB” series activities. The construction of the “Digital Intelligence Campus 3.0” is actively progressing. The university has been recognized as a provincial “Green School Creation Demonstration Unit,” and the sense of satisfaction, happiness, and security among students and faculty members continues to improve. HUTB, as a family, is getting better and better.
Looking back at the journey, the light of dreams and wisdom shines brightly, accompanied by the resolute steps of hard work and breakthroughs. In this world, all achievements require hardships, and unity and struggle are precious. Achievements and glory belong to everyone.
“If you ask why flowers never wither, it’s because heroes continue to strive for success through the ages.” Embarking on a new journey of promoting the comprehensive construction of a strong nation and national rejuvenation in a Chinese-style modernization, we will be guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress. Riding the winds of the times and harnessing the power of progress, we will focus on the work theme of “being proactive, seeking transformation, enhancing connotation, and promoting leapfrog development.” We adhere to the concept of “everything for teachers and students, for all faculties and students, and for everything that concerns faculties and students,” and unite our efforts to enhance the level of education. We will spare no effort to realize the dreams of several generations of HUTB people and make greater contributions in serving the development of the economy and society.
The surging tide goes to the one who rows hardest. Building a great university is our unwavering mission, and only by fully immersing ourselves in the current of the times with a wholehearted attitude can we promote leapfrog development with the belief in being pioneers. We strengthen leadership of Party building to set the direction, create a favorable environment for great achievements, and rely on tenacious struggle to make bold strides forward. With the spirit of the dragon and horse, we embark on endeavors and entrepreneurship, boldly exploring new territory in the midst of vigorous progress, and painting a glorious chapter with every stroke of the pen.
