Academician Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, Attends POMS International Conference in China and Delivers Keynote Speech

From July 11 to 14, the 2025 POMS International Conference in China was held in Danzhou City, Hainan Province. Over 1,400 experts and scholars from around the world gathered to engage in in-depth discussions on the theme "Digital Intelligent Operations Empowering Management Innovation and Revolution," sharing insights on industry frontier trends and development opportunities. Academician Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of the CPC HUTB Committee and Director of the Xiangjiang Laboratory, was invited to attend the conference and deliver a keynote speech.
In her keynote speech titled "Theory and Practice of Enterprise Operations and Service Management Innovation in the Digital Intelligent Era," Academician Chen Xiaohong elaborated on two main sections: the frontier trends of enterprise operations and service innovation in the digital intelligent era, and the theoretical and practical innovations in enterprise operations and service management. She explored the strategic deployments of the Party and the state in developing the digital economy, the opportunities and challenges of the digital economy reshaping the global competitive landscape, and the profound impact of new technologies such as artificial intelligence on operational models and service innovation. She also analyzed the experiences and practical pain points faced by representative enterprises like JD.com, Alibaba, BYD, and Weichai in their digital transformation. Focusing on five core areas—smart supply chains, smart logistics, omnichannel new retail, sharing economy platforms, and smart environmental services—she revealed the common theoretical challenges and practical needs in operations and service management in the digital intelligent era. On this basis, she systematically introduced her team's research achievements in data-driven smart operations and service model innovation, clarifying the important supporting role of these achievements and applications in promoting enterprise digital and intelligent transformation and enhancing competitiveness, as well as in improving China's industrial and supply chain systems. The report provided participating scholars with further research reflections and inspiration. The conference presented certificates to the keynote speakers.
At the opening ceremony, attendees included : Professor Subodha KUMAR, President of POMS from Temple University, USA; Professor Nagesh MURTHY, Deputy Executive President of POMS from the University of Oregon, USA; Professor Christoph LOCH, Editor-in-Chief of the top international management journal Management Science from IESE Business School, Spain; Professor Tang Lixin, Vice President of Northeastern University; Professor Huang Haijun, former Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Beihang University; Professor Liang Liang, former President of Hefei University of Technology; Professor Zhou Xiang from The Chinese University of Hong Kong; Xiang Feng, Vice President of YTO Express Co., Ltd.; Zhang Chao, Director General Level Officer (Grade ll) of Hainan Provincial Department of Education; Chen Qi, Deputy Director of the Investment Promotion Bureau, Yangpu Economic Development Zone, Hainan Province; Xiao Songshan, Assistant to the President of Tianjin University; Kou Jisong, former Vice President of Tianjin University; and Mao Zhaofang, former Vice President of POMS, Chair of 2025 POMS China International Conference, and Party Secretary of the School of Management and Economics at Tianjin University. The opening ceremony was chaired by Professor Liu Weihua, Chair of the Conference Organizing Committee and Chair Professor at Tianjin University.
During the conference, 24 parallel sessions and 192 sub-forums were set up, where experts and scholars from home and abroad gathered to discuss how digital and intelligent operations empower management innovation and transformation. In addition, the conference also held a Deans Forum and 6 special lectures. Each parallel session focused on different research hotspots and cutting-edge topics, sparking lively discussions and intellectual collisions.
As the most influential international academic organization in the field of production and operations management, the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) has been committed to promoting global academic research and practical innovation in production and operations management since its establishment. In 2018, with authorization from the POMS Board of Directors, four mainland Chinese universities - Tianjin University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, and the University of Science and Technology of China - jointly initiated the “POMS International Conference in China.”
