Delegation from Saint Petersburg State Conservatory Visits HUTB

On the afternoon of May 10, a delegation from the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory in Russia visited the university. Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of the CPC HUTB Committee, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), met with Alexei Vasiliev, Rector of the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory, held an exchange symposium, and jointly watched the performance of the Xiangjiang Symphony Orchestra.

Denis Bystrov, Pro-rector for Academic Affairs & Tutorial Work of the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory, Regina Glazunova, Pro-rector for International Affairs of the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory, as well as Zhang Ling, Vice President of HUTB and Yang Liangqi, Member of the CPC HUTB Committee and Vice President of HUTB, attended the event. The exchange symposium was chaired by Vice President Zhang Ling.

Academician Chen Xiaohong delivered a welcoming speech at the meeting, extending a warm welcome to Rector Alexei Vasiliev and his delegation, and introducing the reform, construction, and development of the university. She pointed out that the university has a long history of education, adheres to the educational philosophy of integrating "New engineering courses + new business courses + new liberal arts courses" with science, strives to create the "Seven Major Technologies and Businesses", and leads the construction of high energy-level scientific and technological innovation platforms such as the Xiangjiang Laboratory. The students have high comprehensive quality and the employment rate of graduates ranks among the top universities in the province. Currently, the university is conducting a themed education season on the integrated development of culture and technology, effectively promoting the initiative of "culture empowers development, and technology leads the future". She expressed the hope that through this event, a bridge of friendship can be built to jointly explore the future development trends of music education under new circumstances, promote exchanges and cooperation between the two universities in the field of music education and the arts, and bring more insights and gains to the teachers and students of both universities, jointly composing a new chapter of high-quality development.

Rector Alexei Vasiliev expressed his gratitude for the warm reception from HUTB. He introduced the educational situation of the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory. The Saint Petersburg State Conservatory was established in 1862. It is one of the earliest music academies in Russia and is also a world-renowned higher music institution for cultivating professional musical talents. The conservatory has produced world-renowned music masters such as Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Dmitriy Dmitriyevich Shostakovich, and Valery Gergiev and has also trained a large number of outstanding musicians for the world. He expressed that during the 2024-2025 China-Russia Years of Culture, the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory hopes to establish a cooperative relationship with HUTB, deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and promote fruitful achievements in the field of cultural and artistic cooperation between Russia and China.

The participants engaged in discussions and exchanges on aspects such as the cultivation of talents in "technology + culture", undergraduate exchange visits, and collaborative training for graduates, reaching a consensus on cooperation.

Before the meeting, Rector Alexei Vasiliev and his delegation visited the education premises of the Lingnan Campus, including the Creativity Gallery, the Symphony Orchestra rehearsal hall, the Buduotang Art Gallery, and the Creativity Center. They viewed exhibitions such as the "Metaverse and Future Creation" Metaverse-themed exhibition, traditional wood carving and calligraphy art exhibitions, and design and art exhibitions by university students. They also enjoyed performances by our university's Xiangjiang Symphony Orchestra, including renditions of "Jasmine", "Swan Lake Grand Waltz", "Red Plum Blossom", "Night in the Suburb of Moscow", and "Good News from Beijing to Borderland Village". Additionally, they listened to the "Moni Uula" and "Going Home," as well as the College Student Folk Orchestra's renditions of "Ascending Spring Peak" and "Heroes' Song" performed by Changfeng Chorus of the School of Music.
