Xiangjiang Laboratory Signs Tripartite Cooperation Agreement with CUHK-Shenzhen IUSE and Hunan University of Science and Technology

On the afternoon of April 2, the signing ceremony for the joint establishment of the Smart Geo-Electrical Data Research Center by Xiangjiang Laboratory, the Institute of Urban Underground Space and Energy Studies (IUSE) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Hunan University of Science and Technology (HNUST) was held at the Zhiyuan Lecture Hall of Xiangjiang Building, HUTB. Attending the ceremony were: Academician He Jishan of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and Honorary Dean of IUSE; Academician Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee and Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory; and Professor Jiang Lizhong, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee and President of HNUST.
Also in attendance were: Wang Jin, Member of the CPC Committee and Vice President of HNUST; Wan Buyan, Director of the National and Local Joint Laboratory for Exploration and Mining of Marine Mineral Resources; Zhang Dawei, Dean of IUSE; Tong Xiaochang, Vice Dean of IUSE; Liu Guoquan, Executive Deputy Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory; Hu Chunhua, Deputy Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory; and relevant department heads from participating institutions. The ceremony was presided over by Liu Guoquan, Executive Deputy Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory.
Academician He Jishan delivered a speech. He emphasized that China's underground space development has now entered the exploration and implementation phase. He noted that key areas including underground space utilization, pipeline network construction, and subsurface resource development represent crucial domains for achieving high-quality socioeconomic development. These initiatives can fully unlock the tremendous potential of the "fourth category of national land resources." Academician He underscored that Xiangjiang Laboratory has achieved remarkable progress since its establishment, while HNUST possesses profound expertise in scientific research. He stated that the tripartite collaboration between IUSE, Xiangjiang Laboratory, and HNUST to establish the Smart Geo-Electrical Data Research Center will drive innovative breakthroughs in underground space and energy development through AI technologies. This initiative will facilitate advancements in data integration efficiency and digital simulation technologies, ultimately making significant contributions to China's underground space construction and energy resource utilization.
Academician Chen Xiaohong delivered a welcome address, extending her warmest welcome to Academician He Jishan, President Jiang Lizhong, and other distinguished leaders and experts. She highlighted that as a key scientific and technological initiative of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the People’s Government of Hunan Province, Xiangjiang Laboratory focuses on artificial intelligence and advanced computing, accelerating the development of new quality productive forces through its "Four-in-One Computation" approach, while empowering all industries with "AI+" technologies to build national strategic scientific and technological capabilities. The laboratory has established a high-caliber research team comprising both full-time and adjunct members, including academicians from the CAS and CAE (national-level talents). It has achieved a series of advanced research accomplishments, publicly released 19 innovative products, and been approved as both a Hunan Postdoctoral Innovation & Entrepreneurship Practice Base and a National Postdoctoral Research Workstation. She expressed hopes that this signing ceremony would serve as a strategic platform to fully leverage the combined research advantages of all three parties, using scientific and technological innovation to drive industrial advancement, while striving to yield more groundbreaking achievements.
President Jiang Lizhong expressed heartfelt gratitude to Academicians He Jishan and Chen Xiaohong, as well as all the distinguished leaders and experts, for their longstanding support to HNUST. He conveyed strong confidence and high expectations for this collaborative agreement. He stated that HNUST has conducted in-depth research in relevant fields for many years, achieving a series of breakthrough results and establishing a solid foundation. The university will fully support the construction of the Smart Geo-Electrical Data Research Center, integrating disciplinary resources, providing fundamental support and technical assistance, to ensure the Center operates with high efficiency and quality. He expressed his anticipation that under the leadership of Academicians He Jishan and Chen Xiaohong, the three parties would take this signing as a starting point to integrate superior resources, achieve innovative breakthroughs, establish benchmark models, and better serve Hunan's realization of the "Three Highlands, Four New Missions" vision and the national strategy of building China into a sci-tech powerhouse.

Academician Chen Xiaohong extended her warm congratulations on the successful conclusion of the signing ceremony. These efforts will bolster Hunan Province's leadership in smart geophysical exploration and AI data industries, while contributing intellectual capital to national strategic initiatives.
