HUTB Faculty Members Receive Prestigious Design Award "Golden Pin Design Award"

2023-10-17

Recently, in the selection for the Golden Pin Design Award, known as the "most prestigious design award in the global Chinese market," a work titled "Snake-shaped Feeding Robot" by the team of Professor Shi Gaoshuai in industrial design program from the School of Art & Design at HUTB stood out among over 8,000 entries from 23 countries and regions around the world. They successfully won the "Golden Pin Concept Design Award," further enhancing the reputation of the university's industrial design program.

Design Description for the Snake-shaped Feeding Robot: In the event of an earthquake or a building collapse, some victims may become trapped deep within the rubble with no means of communication with the outside world. Traditional search and rescue equipment is often too bulky to reach deep into the rubble, making it difficult for rescue personnel to obtain information from inside the debris. Even small search and rescue dogs that can enter the rubble face the constant danger of secondary collapses. This snake-shaped feeding robot is characterized by its compact size and flexibility. Its mobility and maneuverability far surpass traditional search and rescue equipment. It can replace search and rescue dogs by entering deep into the rubble. The robot body features a 360-degree camera with adjustable lighting, allowing it to transmit video data from inside the rubble to the outside. The device can transport essential first aid supplies, as well as food and water. Its voice communication function can establish contact with survivors inside the rubble, providing the greatest possible hope of survival for those deep within the debris.

The Golden Pin Design Award was established in 1981 and is organized by the Taiwan Design Research Institute. It includes the awards, award ceremony, and related activities. The award consists of three major categories: the Golden Pin Design Award, the Golden Pin Concept Design Award, and the Golden Young Pin Design Award. These awards are designed to recognize outstanding innovative design products and works, catering to different target groups. The recognition received by Teacher Shi Gaoshuai and his team in this globally renowned competition is a testament to their profound design expertise and forward-thinking approach to the field of industrial design.

Since the inception of the university's industrial design program in 2022, with the support and guidance of the CPC HUTB Committee and the school, all the faculty members have been closely aligned with the development of artificial intelligence and have been actively engaged in both research and teaching to keep pace with the cutting-edge trends in industrial design. They have continuously explored new design methods and concepts. In just over a year since its establishment, students and faculty have garnered more than 50 awards in various prestigious A and B-level competitions. They have demonstrated remarkable potential in the field of innovative design, making valuable contributions to the discipline development at the school. This honor will inspire more students and faculty to make breakthroughs in the field of design, contributing to the continued prosperity and development of the design industry in China.
