Xiangjiang Laboratory Approved as Hunan Research Institution Intellectual Property Center

2024-07-07

Recently, the Administration of Market Regulation of Hunan Province announced the 2024 Hunan Province Intellectual Property Strategy Promotion Project approvals. Xiangjiang Laboratory has been approved for the Hunan Research Institution Intellectual Property Center project. Only four research institutions in Hunan Province received this approval.

Xiangjiang Laboratory, as a key component of Hunan's "4+4 Sci-Tech Innovation Project," a landmark initiative to build a core competitive technology innovation hub, is a major innovation platform for strengthening the computing power support of Hunan. It is the first laboratory officially established in Hunan Province. As a new R&D institution with independent legal status, the laboratory focuses on advanced computing and artificial intelligence, leading in areas such as collaborative scientific research, technological achievement output, and intellectual property protection and application.

Accelerated progress in collaborative scientific research

Xiangjiang Laboratory currently hosts over 20 teams of academicians and experts who have set up innovation studios within the laboratory. The laboratory has established deep collaborations with more than 50 leading companies, including Huawei, JD.com, Baidu, H3C, SANY Heavy Industry, and Valin Group. It has also established an Innovation Research Institute, R&D Centers, Regional Innovation Centers, and the "Integration of Computing Power, Algorithm, Computing Basis and Computing Network Center" Industrial Alliance.

Continued production of scientific and technological innovation results

Xiangjiang Laboratory has deployed over 40 major key projects and continues to produce high-level scientific and technological achievements. In January 2024, the laboratory released seven original products in cutting-edge fields such as multimodal AI large models, industrial operating systems, the Metaverse, intelligent robots, and Beidou navigation. On May 31, the "Towards 2035: Integration and Innovation for the Future" Technology and Culture Expo and the 2nd Science and Technology Festival, jointly hosted by Xiangjiang Laboratory and HUTB, saw the laboratory unveil 46 technological achievements in fields such as artificial intelligence, advanced computing, intelligent perception, intelligent manufacturing, electronic communications, and resource environment during the opening ceremony.

Continuous breakthroughs in intellectual property protection and utilization

Xiangjiang Laboratory has established a Technology Transfer Center and Intellectual Property Center, following the work principle of "developing, applying, transforming, and implementing simultaneously." The center adopts a "Three Comprehensive + Diversified Advancement" approach, which includes comprehensive integration of technological achievements, full alignment of scientific and technological elements, and widespread development of the technology transfer system, while diversifying the promotion of achievements conversion. Since its establishment two years ago, the laboratory has been granted 46 invention patents and 13 software copyrights. It is one of the first registered entities with the Hunan Intellectual Property Protection Center and has been rated as an A-level entity by the Changsha Intellectual Property Protection Center in 2023. The laboratory has also signed agreements with Yueyang and Xiangtan to establish regional innovation centers, aiming to promote high-quality regional economic and social development through the transformation and application of intellectual property.

In recent years, Hunan Province has resolutely implemented the CPC Central Committee and State Council's strategic directives on building a strong intellectual property nation, conducting high-profile efforts in constructing a strong intellectual property province under the "Three Highlands, Four New Missions" framework. To implement the spirit of the Outline for Building an Intellectual Property Power (2021-2035) and the National Plan for the Protection and Utilisation of Intellectual Property Rights During the 14th Five-Year Plan Period, the provincial intellectual property bureau has established a new project this year to develop research institution intellectual property centers. As one of the first approved entities for the construction of research institution intellectual property centers, Xiangjiang Laboratory is enhancing its intellectual property protection system, intellectual property management system, and intellectual property service system. This effort supports the development of our province's artificial intelligence and advanced computing industries, contributing to the realization of the "Three Highlands, Four New Missions" blueprint.
