The autumn breeze is refreshing, and the sweet scent of osmanthus fills the air. On the afternoon of September 27, the "2024 National Science Popularization Day Program" was held at Yuelu District No. 1 Primary School and the south campus of HUTB. The event was organized by HUTB, co-hosted by Xiangjiang Laboratory and the Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence (HNAAI), and undertaken by the HUTB Association of Senior Scientists and Technicians and Yuelu District No. 1 Primary School. Around 70 participants, including representatives from the HUTB Association of Senior Scientists and Technicians, Yuelu District No. 1 Primary School, and HNAAI, took part in the event.
The theme of the 2024 National Science Popularization Day Program is "Enhance the scientific literacy of Chinese citizens and collaborate in building a nation with strength in science and technology." Centered around this theme and in line with the actual circumstances of the university, the event focused on "Science and Technology Workers Popularizing Scientific Knowledge to Primary School Students." It was branded as an initiative to promote science, with the main focus on publicizing and visiting the Xiangjiang Laboratory. The event featured a variety of activities, including: 1. Setting up a large exhibition board at both the north and south campuses; 2. Donating science popularization books to Yuelu District No. 1 Primary School on behalf of the HUTB Association of Senior Scientists and Technicians; 3. Holding the opening ceremony for the main event; 4. Watching an advertising video of the Xiangjiang Laboratory; 5. Organizing a site visit to the Xiangjiang Laboratory; 6. HNAAI presented school supplies to student representatives from Yuelu District No. 1 Primary School.
Members of the HUTB Association of Senior Scientists and Technicians and the student representatives from the primary school showed great enthusiasm and strong interest in the event. They actively signed up to participate, remained focused and attentive throughout the activities, and maintained good order. During the visit to the Xiangjiang Laboratory, the primary school students displayed a keen curiosity about the mysteries of science and technology. They not only listened carefully to the explanations provided by the laboratory experts but also paid close attention to the various high-tech facilities and equipment. Throughout the visit, they asked numerous questions about topics that interested them, and the experts provided thorough answers to each inquiry.
This event was the first large-scale university-wide activity organized by the HUTB Association of Senior Scientists and Technicians since its establishment. The event received strong support from relevant units and departments, was carried out smoothly, achieved the expected outcomes, and was a great success.
