"Artificial Intelligence Empowering New Industrialization" Seminar of 2024 World Computing Conference Successfully Held

On the morning of September 24, the 2024 World Computer Conference opened in Changsha. This conference was sponsored by the People's Government of Hunan Province, with the Industry and Information Technology Department of Hunan Province, the Changsha Municipal People's Government, and the China Center for Information Industry Development (CCID) serving as co-organizers. The Xiangjiang Laboratory, HUTB, and other organizations also participated as supporting units, under the theme "Calculating the World to Creat a New Era—Calculating the New Quality Productive Forces." Academicians, experts from both domestic and international backgrounds, and executives from leading companies in the computing field gathered together to showcase the latest developments, achievements, and trends in the computing industry from various perspectives. At the opening ceremony, the Xiangjiang Laboratory, along with its peers, released the Changsha Initiative on Green Intelligent Computing.

On the afternoon of September 24, the "Artificial Intelligence Empowering New Industrialization" seminar of the 2024 World Computing Conference, co-hosted by the Xiangjiang Laboratory and HUTB, took place. Attending the conference were Chen Xiaohong, CAE Academician, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, Liu Yongjian, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Yang Changfeng, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Wang Huaimin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhou Jianyuan, a member of the Leading CPC Group and Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Hunan Province, Li Min, a National Distinguished Young Scholar and Dean of the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Central South University, Xu Kai, a National Distinguished Young Scholar and Professor at the National University of Defense Technology, Liu Guoquan, Executive Deputy Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, Yi Mianyang, Deputy Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory and Deputy Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, and Hu Chunhua, Deputy Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory.

The opening ceremony and the first phase of keynote speeches were hosted by Executive Deputy Director Liu Guoquan.

During the meeting, Chen Xiaohong, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, delivered a speech. She pointed out that as the first provincial laboratory in Hunan, Xiangjiang Laboratory is committed to aligning national needs, future directions, and Hunan's capabilities. Focusing on core elements such as computing power, algorithms, data, and networks, it strives to build a national strategic technological force in the fields of artificial intelligence and advanced computing. The laboratory aims to be a leader in technological innovation, a pioneer in industrial development, and a proactive builder of application ecosystems. It endeavors to stay at the forefront of the wave of AI innovation and to play a significant role in accelerating the construction of Changsha as a global R&D center city, supporting and leading high-quality development through high-level self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology. This year, core team members have received significant honors, including the first prize of the Outstanding Achievement Award for Research in Institutes of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, the Hunan Province Outstanding Contribution Award in Science and Technology, and the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Award. As a representative of the "4+4 Sci & Tech Innovation Project," Xiangjiang Laboratory delivered a keynote speech sharing typical experiences at the provincial science and technology conference. She looks forward to hearing diverse opinions from all the guests as they freely discuss the future of digital intelligence, and she wishes the thematic seminar great success.

Deputy Director Zhou Jianyuan delivered a speech on behalf of the Department of Science and Technology of Hunan Province. He pointed out that in recent years, Hunan has focused on the "Three Highlands, Four New Missions" vision, actively embracing a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation. The province has promoted the deep integration of artificial intelligence and manufacturing, introduced a series of policies to support technological innovation, and established several high-level technological innovation platforms, continuously advancing breakthroughs in key core technologies of artificial intelligence. He believes that today’s meeting, by gathering diverse insights and sparking new ideas, will generate more innovative approaches and methods. This will contribute wisdom and strength to the deep integration of artificial intelligence and new industrialization, and will further accelerate Hunan’s progress in the new track of industrial upgrading empowered by digital intelligence.

The meeting began with the unveiling ceremonies of Xiangjiang Laboratory’s institutes. In the presence of Academicians Chen Xiaohong, Liu Yongjian, Yang Changfeng, Wang Huaimin, Deputy Director Zhou Jianyuan, Deputy Secretary Yi Mianyang, and other attending academicians, leaders, and entrepreneurs, the inauguration ceremonies for five innovation institutes took place. These include the Basic Research Institute of New Generation Artificial Intelligence of Xiangjiang Laboratory, the Digital Media and Artificial Intelligence Innovation Institute co-established with Hunan Radio, Film and Television Group Co., Ltd., the Industrial Software Innovation Institute co-established with Beijing China Airlines Only Real Robot Technology Co., Ltd., the Low Altitude Economic Technology Innovation Institute co-established with Beijing Aeronitor Technology Co., Ltd. and Lenovo Group, and the No-boundary Mind-AI Cloud Print Innovation Institute co-established with Xprinter Group. Warm applause erupted on the scene.

The meeting moved into the first phase of keynote speeches. CAS Academician Wang Huaimin delivered a keynote speech titled "Edge Computing: Transformative Technologies Supporting Computing Networks." He discussed the issues surrounding edge computing, the research objectives, the current state of the field, and shared the latest research outcomes achieved by his team in this area. Li Min, a National Distinguished Young Scholar and Dean of the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Central South University, delivered a keynote speech titled "Artificial Intelligence Empowering Biological and Pharmaceutical Research and Development." She presented the latest application research outcomes of artificial intelligence in the field of biomedicine. Yang Jiayuan, General Manager of Huawei Hybrid Cloud, delivered a keynote speech titled "Large Model Hybrid Cloud: Achieving New Heights and Leading Intelligent Upgrades for Government and Enterprises." He discussed the current state of the large model industry and proposed solutions for empowering various sectors with large model hybrid cloud technology. The engaging presentations opened the eyes of the audience and provided them with deep insights.

The second phase of keynote speeches was hosted by Deputy Director Yi Mianyang. Liu Zan, Vice President of New H3C Group and Dean of China Academy of Industrial Internet, delivered a keynote speech titled "Empowering with Digital Intelligence, Moving Towards Innovation." Robert Puto, Senior Vice President of TÜV Rheinland Greater China, delivered a keynote speech titled "Dynamic Safety in the TÜV Rheinland I4.0 Environment - Adaptive Security Assurance System (AS3)." Chen Li, Co-founder and COO of Unitree Robotics, gave a speech titled "General Humanoid Robot Products and Technology Iteration." Lin Facheng, Vice President of Kingdee Software (China) Co., Ltd. and President of the Medium-sized Enterprise BU, gave a speech titled "AI + Enterprise Management: Reshaping Business Capabilities." Fu Yong, CTO of X-EPIC, delivered a presentation titled "The Practice of AI Technology in EDA." Deng Wenping, Chairman and CEO of Speedbot Robotics Co., Ltd., delivered a keynote speech titled "Exploration of Industrial Embodied AI for Smart Manufacturing." Yang Xianqing, Deputy Director of the Institute of Electronic Information of CCID, reported on the "Research Report on the Development of the Advanced Computing Industry (2024)."

Finally, the meeting held the inauguration ceremony for the "Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Computing" Special Committee of China Information Economics Society. The ceremony was hosted by Deputy Director Hu Chunhua. Huang Lei, Vice President of China Information Economics Society, delivered a speech on behalf of the society, warmly congratulating the establishment of the "Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Computing" Special Committee and expressing high hopes for its construction and development. Zhou Xinmin, Secretary General of the Special Committee, introduced the preparations for its establishment. Experts and scholars, including Professor Hu Dongbin from Central South University, Professor Xu Kai from National University of Defense Technology, and Professor Wang Nianxin from Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, engaged in discussions and exchanges regarding the construction and development of the Special Committee.

The "Artificial Intelligence Empowering New Industrialization" seminar of the 2024 World Computing Conference focuses on the empowering role of artificial intelligence in the development of new industrialization. It looks at the forefront of global intelligent technology development and engages in profound discussions and action planning around "AI +". This initiative aims to solidify the foundation for AI empowerment, promote the transformation of the manufacturing industry toward high-end, intelligent, and green development, strengthen intelligent upgrade applications in key industries, and advance the construction of a smart society. Xiangjiang Laboratory and HUTB actively hosted this industry event, demonstrating their responsibility and commitment in serving national and Hunan development strategies and promoting high-quality economic and social development.
