2024 Annual Conference of the Higher Education Trade Economics Teaching and Research Committee of the Commerce Economy Association Held at HUTB

From November 8 to 10, the 2024 Annual Conference of the Higher Education Trade Economics Teaching and Research Committee of the Commerce Economy Association, along with the forum on "Construction of Trade Economics with Chinese Characteristics and the Development of an Independent Knowledge System," was held at HUTB. Professor Wang Xiaodong, President of the Higher Education Trade Economics Teaching and Research Committee, and Professor Zhao Hua, member of the CPC HUTB Committee and Vice President of HUTB, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. More than 100 experts and scholars from the field of domestic trade economics attended the conference to jointly discuss the construction of trade economics with Chinese characteristics and the development of an independent knowledge system.

In his speech, Vice President Zhao Hua pointed out that in response to the rapid development of new-generation digital technologies and the construction of modern circulation systems, the development of trade economics with Chinese characteristics and the creation of an independent knowledge system are essential tasks for the economics community in the new era. He emphasized that the holding of this annual conference will strongly promote universities across the country in accelerating the development of trade economics disciplines and the establishment of an independent knowledge system, which is of great significance for advancing the construction of new business courses at HUTB.  

President Wang Xiaodong reviewed the development history and current structure of the trade economics major and discipline, and provided guidance on discipline construction and the establishment of an independent knowledge system from the perspectives of theoretical framework, research directions, and talent cultivation. He emphasized that, with the vigorous development of the digital economy and the new dual circulation development pattern, the prospects for trade economics are promising. He suggested that universities across the country can innovate and promote the development of the discipline by establishing secondary disciplines and strengthening interdisciplinary integration.

Professor Liu Siwei was invited to give a keynote speech, and Professors Zeng Qingjun from Chongqing Technology and Business University, Guo Xinmei from Beijing Technology and Business University, Xie Lijuan from Renmin University of China, Hao Aimin from Zhengzhou University of Aeronautics, Yang Xiangyang from Nanjing University of Finance & Economics, and Xu Jian from Dongbei University of Finance & Economics each delivered thematic reports on topics such as the construction of trade economics majors, teaching reform, and research frontiers. The keynote session was chaired by Professor Chen Axing from Anhui University of Finance & Economics.

The thematic discussion session invited 11 experts and scholars from universities such as Zhejiang Gongshang University, HUTB, and Xi'an Jiaotong University to give exchange speeches. The session was chaired by Professor Li Yushuang from Jiaxing University and Professor Guo Jianyu from Shanxi University of Finance and Economics.

In the session with the editors-in-chief of management and economics journals, five experts, including Li Chenhua, Director of the Journal Editorial of Nanjing Audit University, Wan Lu, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of South China Journal of Economics, Guo Baocai, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Business Economics, Deng Yan, Column Director of Journal of Beijing Technology and Business University (Social Sciences), and Deng Baisheng, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Commercial Science Research, had a discussion and exchange with the conference participants. The session was chaired by Professor Tang Hongtao from HUTB.

At the closing ceremony, Professor Xiang Guocheng, Dean of the School of Economy & Trade at HUTB, and Professor Li Chenhua, Secretary-General of the Higher Education Trade Economics Teaching and Research Committee, respectively delivered closing speeches. The conference was organized by the Higher Education Trade Economics Teaching and Research Committee and hosted by the School of Economy & Trade of HUTB.
