2024-11-13
From November 6 to 10, the selection competition for the Tai Chi event of the 15th National Games and the 2024 National Tai Chi Open Finals were held in Jiangsu. Dr. Zhou Shengwen, a faculty member of the School of Sports and Health at HUTB, won the gold medal in the 42-form Tai Chi competition.
The competition selected participants through four regional qualifiers: North China, West China, East China, and South China divisions, as well as the top six from the 3rd Global Tai Chi Online Competition, who advanced to the finals. A total of 186 teams, with approximately 1,930 participants, took part in the event.
Zhou Shengwen, a teacher from HUTB, advanced to the finals through the online competition and the South China qualifier. In the finals, he demonstrated superb skill in the 42-form Tai Chi and showcased a positive mental attitude. The 42-form Tai Chi competition routine is based on the Yang style, incorporating movements from the Chen, Wu, and Sun styles of Tai Chi. This routine emphasizes the technical requirements of Tai Chi, such as the coordination of intention with movement and the integration of firmness and softness. It features a certain level of difficulty, intensity, and physical exertion.
In recent years, under the care and guidance of the CPC HUTB Committee and with strong support from the School of Sports and Health, HUTB's Wushu team has relied on the ethnic traditional sports base to cultivate innovative academic teams. They have actively promoted the integration of Wushu and ethnic traditional sports in teaching, training, and research. The team has won championships in national college student Wushu, Tai Chi, and both long and short weapon events, further promoting and preserving the excellent traditional Chinese martial arts culture, bringing honor to the university.
