HUTB Hosts 3rd Hunan Graduate Creative Writing Competition

The 3rd Hunan Graduate Creative Writing Competition, organized by the Department of Education of Hunan Province, hosted by HUTB, and co-organized by the Hunan Writing Association, successfully concluded from November 1 to 3. Through the preliminary selection, universities such as Central South University, Hunan University, Hunan Normal University, and HUTB sent nearly 80 participants to the semifinals. The semifinals consisted of two parts: a written exam and a defense. After a rigorous review by the competition's expert committee, a total of 45 prizes were awarded, including first, second, and third prizes, as well as three Excellent Organization Awards.

Professor Zhang Ling, Vice President of HUTB, Professor Luo Huijin, Vice President of Jishou University, Professor Xiao Bairong, Dean of the Literal Art College at Hunan Normal University, which is the Secretary-General Unit of the Hunan Graduate Creative Writing Competition, Liu Mengqing, Deputy Director of the Degree Management and Graduate Education Division of the Department of Education of Hunan Province, Professor Du Yan, Dean of the Graduate School at HUTB, Professor Yan Zhen, Chair of the Judging Panel and Professor at the School of Humanities at Central South University, Professor Li Zuolin, Secretary-General of the Organizing Committee of the Hunan Graduate Creative Writing Competition, and Professor Peng Wenzhong, Executive Dean of the School of Digital Media Engineering and Humanities at HUTB, which is the host unit for this competition, all attended the closing ceremony.

Vice President Zhang Ling extended a warm welcome to the attending leaders and guests. She expressed the hope that through this competition, the interest of graduate students in literary creation would be further stimulated. She encouraged everyone to read more, think more, write more, and innovate more, combining personal emotional experiences with social responsibility, and creating works that are both deep and meaningful. She emphasized that these efforts would contribute to the prosperity and development of China's cultural undertakings.

Deputy Director Liu Mengqing pointed out that this competition has provided a broad platform for graduate students in the province to showcase and refine themselves. It has played an active role in promoting the reform of literary and creative writing education in the province's universities and in cultivating the innovative abilities of graduate students. Professor Yan Zhen gave an in-depth and insightful review of the works in the semi-final. Professor Du Yan provided an introduction to the preparation process of this competition.

During the competition, HUTB also organized the "Lushan Lecture: Cultural HUTB Lecture Series," inviting Shen Nian, Vice Chairman of the Writers' Association of Hunan Province and Editor-in-Chief of Hunan Literature, and Gong Shuguang, founder of Xiaoxiang Morning Herald and the first Chairman of China South Publishing Media Group Co., Ltd., to deliver insightful lectures for the participants. Shen Nian's lecture was titled "A Chasm or a Passage—On the Transformation Between Reading, Writing, and Life", while Gong Shuguang's lecture was titled "It's Not About How You Want to Write, But How You Can Write!"

This competition is an important event in the cultural and educational development of our province. It is not only a concentrated display of the literary talents of young students in Hunan, but also a grand feast of intellectual exchange and emotional interaction. Graduate students from different universities and disciplines gathered here to freely express themselves with pen and ink, using words to record the era, stories to touch hearts, and creativity to showcase their talents. This effectively enhanced the humanistic qualities and innovative thinking abilities of graduate students in our province.
