HUTB Holds 2024 Annual Awards Conference

Forge new achievements through steadfast dedication and pragmatic action, and compose glorious new chapters with united resolve and relentless endeavor. On the afternoon of January 17, HUTB held the 2024 Annual Awards Conference at the Xiangjiang Lecture Hall of the Xiangjiang Building.
Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of the CPC HUTB Committee, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, along with other current Chief Leaders and CPC HUTB Committee members, attended the conference. Also in attendance were all officials holding positions at the department level and above, all award recipients, representatives of professors, doctors, and faculty members, as well as staff representatives from administrative departments. The conference was chaired by Liao Xiangyue, Deputy Secretary of the CPC HUTB Committee and President of HUTB.
The conference began with the solemn national anthem. Everyone stood up for the playing and singing of the national anthem of the People's Republic of China.
Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of the CPC HUTB Committee, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered a speech titled "Promoting reform, injecting vitality, enhancing distinctiveness, and pursing excellence, we forge ahead with unwavering resolve to build an innovative, first-class university". She, on behalf of the CPC HUTB Committee, warmly congratulated the award-winning advanced individuals and outstanding representatives, and expressed the most heartfelt thanks to all faculty and staff who have worked diligently for the construction and development of the university.
Secretary Chen Xiaohong pointed out that 2024 marks a significant milestone in the university's development history. In driving high-quality development under the guidance of high-quality Party building, the university was successfully approved as a doctoral degree-granting institution. The discipline of Management Science and Engineering was approved as a first-level doctoral degree authorization point. All "Three Upgrades" goals were realized, marking the successful fulfillment of the "decade-long commitment". The dreams of generations of HUTB members have now become reality, kicking off a new phase of high-quality development for the university in the new era. Throughout the past year, the university has inspired institutional vitality through deepening reforms, gathered innovation momentum by pooling collective wisdom to tackle challenges, forged a distinguished education brand in pursuit of excellence, enhanced societal contributions through collaborative engagement, and reinforced well-being safeguards through quality improvement and efficiency enhancement. These achievements were made possible thanks to the strong leadership of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and Hunan Provincial Government, the sincere unity and pragmatic execution of the CPC HUTB Committee and HUTB leadership team, the close cooperation and joint efforts of all HUTB departments, and more importantly, the diligent and hard work of all faculty, staff, and students.
Focusing on the implementation of the university's 2025 work theme, Secretary Chen Xiaohong outlined four aspirations: 1. Demonstrate new achievements in promoting reform. 1) Update educational philosophies to guide reform directions; 2) Improve systemic reforms to energize reform vitality; 3) Enhance collaborative partnerships to consolidate reform synergy. 2. Demonstrate new achievements in injecting vitality. 1) Innovate academic exchanges to ignite research creativity; 2) Introduce fresh talent to energize team development; 3) Optimize campus environments to foster youthful vibrancy. 3. Demonstrate new achievements in strengthening distinctive features. 1) Delve into disciplinary strengths to build advantageous discipline clusters; 2) Create specialized curricula to nurture personalized talents; 3) Strengthen industry-university-research cooperation to highlight service specialties; 4) Carry forward featured campus culture to build the university brand. 4. Demonstrate new achievements in striving for excellence. 1) Anchor efforts at the global forefront to scale academic heights; 2) Refine teaching quality to cultivate outstanding professionals; 3) Attract top-tier scholars to forge exceptional faculty teams; 4) Deepen international cooperation to broaden global horizons.
Secretary Chen Xiaohong also raised three expectations for all faculty and staff: 1. Cultivate profound devotion to education, continuously strengthen professional identity and sense of belonging, enhance intrinsic motivation, elevate passion into lifelong commitment, cherish the vocation of education and every student, and dedicate their whole life to the education career. 2. Strive to be professional, focused, and dedicated. Endeavor to become a true expert by mastering their academic and professional areas with specialization, excellence, and depth. And devote undivided attention to teaching and nurturing students. 3. Cultivate noble character, refined taste, and virtuous conduct. Expand their vision, broaden perspectives, elevate aesthetic appreciation, advance personal cultivation, and nurture intellectual qualities of integrity, righteousness, composure, elegance, and scholarly refinement, ultimately realizing that "a mind enriched with knowledge radiates natural grace".
Yi Mianyang, Deputy Secretary of the CPC HUTB Committee, announced the Notification on the List of Recipients of the 2024 HUTB Excellence Awards (Pragmatic Execution Award, etc.). 70 individuals including He Longde and 26 units/teams including the Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies were honored in the 2024 HUTB Excellence Awards (Pragmatic Execution Award, etc.)
During the awards ceremony, Secretary Chen Xiaohong presented awards to advanced units and outstanding teams/individuals who had received honors including: Pragmatic Execution Award, "Excellent" rating in the comprehensive evaluation of secondary schools, "Good" rating in major special project assessments of administrative and service departments, Three-dimensional Education Award, Academician Academic Award, and Representative Achievement Award.
Chief Leaders and CPC HUTB Committee members in attendance presented awards to outstanding individuals who received the Gratitude Outstanding Teacher Award, Wanghan Young Talent Award, Most Beautiful Teacher Award, Advanced Worker Award, and Best Counselor Award.
During the conference, member groups of the "Culture + Technology" Integrated Development Alliance, including Xiangjiang Symphony Orchestra and Changge Vocal Ensemble, performed classic musical pieces including "Ode to Beijing", "The Flowing River", "Tango Dance", and "Toast to the Motherland".
"Ode to Beijing" expresses love for the great motherland and longing for the capital city of Beijing with its beautiful melody and lyrical vocals. "The Flowing River" metaphorically represents the journey of life filled with years of experiences through the image of a flowing river, expressing the passage of time, profound memories, and sentimental recollections. "Tango Dance" features a lively and agile melody, rich musical variations, passionate emotions, and vigorous dance rhythms, inspiring boundless vitality for thriving advancement and innovative development. "Toast to the Motherland" conveys boundless love and deep reverence for the nation with its impassioned melody and powerful vocals. The wonderful performances also showed the HUTB members' deep love for the Party and country, their hardworking and determined spirit, and their positive and optimistic attitude.
With fruitful results in the past year owing to hard work, we anticipate even greater glories this year. In the end, Chief Leaders and CPC HUTB Committee members took the stage to join faculty members in singing songs "Song of Hunan university of Technology and Business" and "Ode to the Motherland". Under the direction of Xiao Ming, a National First-Class Conductor and Dean of the School of Music, the attendees sang from their hearts to honor the great Party and beloved motherland, while expressing full confidence and aspirations for the university's high-quality development in the new era. The auditorium transformed into a rippling red sea as attendees enthusiastically waved miniature national flags.
With this, the event concluded successfully in a spirited and uplifting atmosphere.
