Amidst the fine drizzle, the groundbreaking ceremony site for the Lingnan Fenghua Building project (new engineering teaching and laboratory comprehensive building) at the South Campus was filled with a joyous and celebratory atmosphere. The classic songs "Festival Anthem" and "Song of the Yangtze River" were passionately sung at the event, celebrating the university’s new journey of construction and development and expressing profound affection for the motherland.

Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of the CPC HUTB Committee, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Liao Xiangyue, Deputy Secretary of the CPC HUTB Committee and President of HUTB, along with other current Chief Leaders, CPC HUTB Committee members and representatives of units responsible for project construction jointly participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Fenghua Building project. Warm applause erupted on the scene. The Fenghua Building (Lingnan new engineering teaching and laboratory comprehensive building at the South Campus) project has a total construction area of over 12,000 square meters. It primarily involves the construction of a comprehensive teaching and laboratory building comprising one underground floor and six above-ground floors, housing facilities including a rehearsal hall, classrooms, teaching and research offices, reception rooms, and a book café. The Fenghua Building will be completed and put into use at the beginning of the autumn semester this year, which will further enhance the teaching and research conditions at the South Campus.

The Moon Island Campus is situated on the bank of the Xiangjiang River, covering an area of 115 Mu (approximately 7.67 hectares). The first phase occupies over 30 Mu (approximately 2 hectares) with a construction area of over 44,000 square meters. The first phase includes the Lide Building (new engineering teaching and laboratory center building at the Moon Island Campus), Hongji Building (canteen, student activity center, and swimming pool at the Moon Island Campus), Hongren Building (student apartment Building A at the Moon Island Campus), and supporting infrastructure. The Lide Building houses facilities such as a book café, multi-functional lecture halls, classrooms, and laboratories. The Hongji Building contains a canteen, student activity center, and swimming pool. The Hongren Building serves as high-standard student apartments. The campus is also equipped with supporting infrastructure including internal roads, basketball courts, and athletic fields. The first phase of the project will be completed and put into use this autumn, by that time the Moon Island Campus will officially start operations.

Meanwhile, construction of the second phase of the Moon Island Campus is progressing actively, including the student apartment Building B and the science and technology training comprehensive building (Buildings A and B), with a total construction area of over 37,000 square meters. The planned facilities include standard classrooms, training classrooms, lecture halls, meeting rooms, seminar rooms, and student apartments.
