Two HUTB Students Awarded the Title of "Star of Self-improvement of Chinese College Students"

Recently, the results of the 2023-2024 "Star of Self-improvement of Chinese College Students" scholarship recommendation and selection activity were announced. The event was organized by the Primary-Level Development Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China and China Youth Daily under the guidance of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China and the All-China Students' Federation, and co-organized by New Oriental Education & Technology Group and China Foundation for Youth Entrepreneurship and Employment. After undergoing university recommendations, provincial preliminary evaluations, and national reviews, Shi Tao from the School of Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Computing and Yin Jiajia from the School of Finance were awarded the honorary title of 2023-2024 "Star of Self-improvement of Chinese College Students". They were also granted the "New Oriental Self-Improvement Scholarship for Chinese College Students."

Shi Tao, male, CPC member and undergraduate student enrolled in 2021 at the School of Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Computing, has been recognized with the "Star of Self-Improvement of Chinese College Students" Scholarship. He has also been honored with HUTB titles including "Student of the Year", "Exemplary Student", and "Top Ten Youth League Branch Secretaries". During his undergraduate studies, he ranks in the top 7.5% of his major in academic performance. He has led 1 national-level key research project in prioritized fields, filed 1 utility model patent application, obtained 2 software copyright grants, and had 2 journal papers accepted for publication. He has won 8 national awards including the First Prize in the "Challenge Cup" Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition, Bronze Award in the Innovation Competition, and Third Prize in the Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Competition, as well as 11 provincial/municipal awards and 28 university-level awards.

Yin Jiajia, female, CPC member and undergraduate student enrolled in 2021 at the School of Finance, has been recognized with the "Star of Self-Improvement of Chinese College Students" Scholarship. She has also been honored with HUTB titles including "Outstanding CPC Member" and "Top Ten Outstanding Youths". Despite undergoing two craniotomies, she remains resilient and strives relentlessly for self-improvement. She has led 2 college students' innovation training projects, published 1 journal paper as the first author, and received awards including the provincial Second Prize in the Tax Risk Management Case Competition. She has served as a military training instructor, Deputy Secretary of the Committee of the Communist Youth League of China of the School of Finance, and support assistant . She has actively participated in volunteer service activities and social practices, accumulating a total of 236.5 hours of volunteer services. She was awarded the "Outstanding Individual" in the 2022 Hunan Province summer "Sanxiaxiang Program (namely, popularizing cultural, technological and medical knowledge in rural areas)" social practice activities for college and vocational school students. Her personal story was featured in a special interview by Hunan Education Channel.

The scholarship recommendation and selection activity, themed "Self-Confidence, Self-Improvement, and Courageously Shouldering Responsibilities", aims to mobilize and guide Youth League members to actively take on responsibilities in building a strong nation and advancing the great cause of national rejuvenation. Over the years, the university, under the leadership of the CPC HUTB Committee, has attached great importance to cultivating and recognizing exemplary youth models who demonstrate patriotism, moral integrity, diligence in learning and truth-seeking, innovation and entrepreneurship, community engagement, and commitment to striving. Going forward, the university will focus on exemplary education, and provide comprehensive, multi-dimensional guidance to empower Youth League members to strengthen ideological convictions, cultivate patriotic dedication, embrace era-defining responsibilities, and strive to develop into exemplary youth of the new era who are visionary, responsible, resilient and industrious.
