2025-07-09
On the afternoon of July 8, Academician Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of the CPC HUTB Committee, Director of the HUTB Council, and Director of the Xiangjiang Laboratory, met with Hungarian Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr. Jakab István, and his delegation.

The visit was accompanied by Czégel Bálint, Consul General of Hungary in Chongqing, and Mr. Guo Haolin, Director of the Foreign Affairs Bureau of the Hungarian National Assembly, among others. Guo Xiangli, Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee; Zhang Ling, Vice President of HUTB; and Mo Xiangyi, member of the CPC HUTB Committee and Vice President of HUTB, among others, were in attendance. Leaders of relevant departments and secondary schools also attended the event. The exchange symposium was held in the Zhiyuan Lecture Hall of Xiangjiang Building.

Academician Chen Xiaohong extended a warm welcome to Deputy Speaker Jakab István and his delegation, and introduced the development achievements and vision of HUTB and the Xiangjiang Laboratory. As a high-level university rooted in Hunan and globally oriented, the university upholds the motto "Sincerity & Credibility; Pragmatism & Innovation." It has built an innovative system integrating "New engineering courses + new business courses + new medicine courses + new liberal arts courses" with science, forming three distinctive directions: "Digital Intelligence+ (AI+)," "Green+," and "Culture + Technology." The university boasts over 160 national and provincial-level research platforms led by academicians. Taking the lead in establishing the Xiangjiang Laboratory, it has achieved 24 groundbreaking results in fields such as AI pre-trained large models, embodied intelligent (humanoid) robots, and the low-altitude economy. She pointed out that China-Hungary relations have continued to deepen under the alignment of the "Belt and Road" initiative and Hungary's "Eastern Opening" policy. The university has already established practical cooperation with Hungarian institutions such as the University of Debrecen. She expressed hope that this exchange would serve as an opportunity to deepen collaboration in fields like artificial intelligence and advanced computing, jointly promoting mutual learning among civilizations and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Deputy Speaker Jakab István highly praised the warm reception and achievements of HUTB. He noted that Hungary, as China's comprehensive strategic partner in the new era, is playing a "bridgehead" role by leveraging its five Confucius Institutes and the only Chinese-Hungarian bilingual school in Europe to deepen cultural exchanges with China. Against the economic backdrop of Hungary leading the EU in Chinese investment over the past three years and its scientific research strength evidenced by two Nobel laureates in 2023, Deputy Speaker Jakab István proposed three key areas for collaboration: focusing on the intersection of AI with agriculture and climate change to promote the integration of innovative technologies and jointly apply for EU research projects; coordinating the establishment of high-level exchange mechanisms between higher education institutions in both countries; and sharing Hungary's green transition practical cases to foster Sino-Hungarian collaborative innovation and jointly accelerate the sustainable development process.

During the free exchange session, both sides engaged in discussions centered on "AI Empowering All Industries" and "Digitalization for the 'Dual Carbon' Goals."

Before the meeting, Deputy Speaker Jakab István and his delegation inspected the Xiangjiang Laboratory's scientific research achievements exhibition hall, science and technology innovation base, and scientist innovation sharing center. They also visited the HUTB Sports Activity Center, Qiushi Academy, and the Creativity Gallery art exhibition, among other venues. They enjoyed high-level musical performances and offered high praise.
