2025-07-18
On April 23, the awarding ceremony for Hunan Province’s first batch of Research Institution Intellectual Property Centers was grandly held at the Hunan sub-venue of the 2025 National Intellectual Property Publicity Week. Wang Junshou, Vice Governor of the People's Government of Hunan Province, attended the ceremony and announced the launch of the event. Zhang Peng, Director of the Department of Treaty and Law and Director General Level Officer (Grade I) of the National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), delivered remarks at the event. Meng Xiangding, Director General Level Officer (Grade I) of the General Office of People's Government of Hunan Province, presented the accreditation plaques, while Professor Liu Guoquan, Executive Deputy Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, accepted the honor on behalf of the lab. This accreditation not only serves as high recognition of Xiangjiang Laboratory’s outstanding achievements in intellectual property creation, utilization, and protection, but also strategically empowers it to lead regional innovation and advance core technology patent deployment. It marks Xiangjiang Lab’s formal role as a pivotal hub for Hunan’s mission to build a powerhouse of intellectual property.

As a major sci-tech innovation platform established by Hunan Province, Xiangjiang Laboratory is dedicated to serving the province’s key industries, tackling strategic, forward-looking, and fundamental major scientific problems in the areas of advanced computing and artificial intelligence and the critical core technologies, while accelerating the efficiency and innovation of the digital economy and smart social governance. Centered on the "Four-in-One Computation" of data, algorithms, computing power, and networks, it drives cutting-edge research. The laboratory has established "industry-university-research-application" collaborations with over 50 entities, including Huawei, Baidu, H3C, Sany Heavy Industry, Hunan Valin Iron & Steel Group Co., Ltd., and Hunan Radio, Film and Television Group Co., Ltd.
Xiangjiang Laboratory is not only the first provincial-level lab to be inaugurated but also the pioneer in establishing a dual "Technology Transfer Center – Intellectual Property Center" among its peers. Following the work principle of "developing, applying, transforming, and implementing simultaneously," the center adopts a "Three Comprehensive + Diversified Advancement" approach, which includes comprehensive integration of technological achievements, full alignment of scientific and technological elements, and widespread development of the technology transfer system, while diversifying the promotion of achievements conversion. The laboratory has now launched 19 original and pioneering technological innovations with proprietary intellectual property across multiple fields, including AI pre-training large models (for cultural creativity, smart manufacturing, pathology, etc.), embodied (humanoid) intelligent robotics, bio-intelligent manufacturing, industrial digital twins, the metaverse, "culture + technology" integration, smart transportation, low-altitude economy, smart energy, intelligent computing acceleration, and secure data-sharing frameworks. Since its inauguration in July 2022, Xiangjiang Laboratory has filed over 250 national invention patent applications as the sole or primary applicant, with more than 150 granted, while also securing 100+ computer software copyrights. Its technology transactions and commercialization outcomes have been exceptionally impactful.
