School of Mathematics & Statistics Holds a Symposium with Alumni of 1980

On September 19, the School of Mathematics & Statistics held a symposium with the alumni from Class 6 of Statistics of 1980 at the Conference Room A927 of the Economic Management Complex to celebrate these alumni’s 40th anniversary of graduation. Fortyyears later, the alumni gathered together in the university again to reminisce about their friendship with teachers and classmates and to offer suggestions for the reform and development of the alma mater. This symposium was attended by Xia Jichun, former Vice Party Secretary-General of Hunan University of Technology and Business (HUTB), Zhang Hong, Director of the Alumni Office, Xie Xiaoliang, Dean of the School of Mathematics & Statistics, Yang Gang, Party Secretary-General of the School of Mathematics & Statistics, Gong Shuming, Head of the Statistics Department, and Yang Kai, former class advisor of Class 6 of Statistics. Mr. Yang presided over this symposium.

 


On behalf of the school, Mr. Yang extended his warm welcome and sincere greetings to all alumni back to the campus. He fully affirmed the contributions these alumni have made to society and their alma mater over the forty years since graduation. He hoped that these alumni couldvisit their alma mater often and continue to care for and support the construction and development of the School of Mathematics & Statistics and HUTB. He pointed out that the alumni hadmade important contributions to the economic and social development by working hard in all walks of life across the country. He stressed that by doing so, they hadestablished a good social reputation for the school and provided the greatest support for the school's development. He added that the alumni’s success was the greatest success of the School of Mathematics & Statistics and HUTB.

 

Dean Xie Xiaoliang introduced to the alumni the school’s development in talent training, faculty, discipline construction, scientific research and other aspects in recent years. Besides, he delivered good wishes to these alumni, shared their alma mater's achievements, and enhanced their emotional communication with teachers. He noted that in recent years, the school hadseen gradual expansion in the scale of teachers and students, the continuous improvement in discipline construction, the further refinement in infrastructure, and the constant optimization in learning and working environments,and all these developments benefit from the care and support of the school leaders, the efforts from the faculty and students, and the backing of the massive alumni. Dean Xie hoped that the alumni could continue to follow and support the alma mater and to contribute more wisdom and strength in their alma mater’s construction of “Double First-class” Initiative.

 

Director Zhang Hong welcomed these alumni and thanked them for their support for the Alumni Association. He expressed that since the establishment of the Alumni Association of the School of Mathematics & Statistics, all alumni have actively backed up the development of the education cause of the alma mater. Deeply moved by the alumni’s care and support for the alma mater, Director Zhang noted that the Alumni Association would well serve the alumni by building a bridge for them to communicate with the school of Mathematics & Statistics and HUTB and creating a platform for them to interact, cooperate, and share resources.

 

Xia Jichun, former Vice Party Secretary-General of HUTB, extended his warm welcome to the alumni from Class 6 of Statistics of 1980, and expressed his heartfelt thanks to those alumni who had long been caring about and supporting the alma mater’s development. He emphasized that no matter how time changed, the care for classmates, the friendship between teachers and students, and the nostalgia for the alma mater would never change. He hoped that the alumni could continue to care about the alma mater, provide valuable opinions on the university’s development, and work hard together to build HUTB into a high-level university for technology and business.

 

At the symposium, the alumni shared their life experience and thoughts in the 40 years after graduation. They all expressed their gratitude for the alma mater’s cultivation. They said that as alumni, they were delighted to gather in the alma mater again and see the inspiring achievements the alma mater had made.
