Sino- Canadian- Korean Joint Seminar Held in School of Public Administration

On the evening of Oct 29, a joint Sino- Canadian- Korean academic seminar was held in the School of Public Administration. Chen Tan, the dean of School of Public Administration of China Guangzhou University, Soma, professor of School of Political Research of Canada Queen’s University, Kim-Yon Kuan, the committee member of Korea National Administration Research Institute, conducted an academic exchanging with all faculty members of the School of Public Administration in our school.
Prof. Chen focuses on the “Mega Data Administration of Political Affairs” in public administration studies. He said that the social science should seize the opportunity and administrate the mega data under the current situation that industries move from the Pearl River Delta to Southeast Asia. He took the examples of the House of Cards’ audience rating and Alibaba’s data-orienting in the information revolution to show that mega data is right close to our lives. Prof. Chen also elaborated the relationship among mobile internet, mega data and smart country with an example that the buyer would be able to know the whole life of the pork he bought by scanning the QR code on it, which greatly ensures food safety. “…, which is the smart administration in the era of mega data”, he said.

Prof. Soma’s theme was “Social Capital and the Management of Public Health”. He holds that during specific period, the individual social and economic condition determine the prevalence rate and lifetime, but after the promotion of economic conditions, inter-personal connections, mutual trust and other social capitals becomes the influential factor to public health management. He suggests a wide accumulation of social capital in defense of negative healthy risks.
Prof. Kim-Yong Kuan’s speech was “Government 3.0, the Post NPN Government Administration”. He started from the reforming theories of Korean Government and made a detailed introduction to the means of administration of Park Geun-hye’s reforming idea, which helped the students understand the idea, method and concept of government 3.0 and smart government.
