Studentsof Our School Awardedin Hunan 21st College Student English Speech Competition

From Oct. 23rd to 25th, Hunan 21st College Student English Speech Competition, i.e. the semi-final competition of the 6th session of FLTRP National English Speech Competition, sponsored by Hunan Educational Department, was held in Huaihua College.

Xia Jiajun, an English major student from class 1302, won the second place of the professional group; Zhang Xinyi, a student majoring conference & exhibition management, won the third place of the non-professional group; and Liu Fang, a student majoring accounting from Beijin College, won the second place of the non-professional group.

150 Contestants from National University of Defense Technology, Central South University, Hunan University, Hunan Normal University and other over 50 universities participated the competition. The competition was divided into group I of the first and second batches of undergraduates, and group II of the third batch of undergraduates and the newly bachelor school’s students.

The competition schedule contained a 3-minute propositional speech and a 2-minute impromptu speech. The topics for the propositional speech came from Zhuang Zi and Hui Zi’s debate over a big gourd, while the topics for the impromptu speech were “Reading Crisis”, “Modern Cities Are For People, Not For Cars”, “When Social Media Integrates Into Friendship” for group I and “Overeating can be as harmful as smoking”, “To work for a big company or to start your own business”, “My view in increasing business and cultural contact between China and other countries” for group II.

Shi Bo, Lyu Yuye, Zhou Ling, Mo Jiaojiao and other teachers from School of Foreign Languages were responsible for the student training of this competition. The good results are obtained through the efforts of all teachers and students. (Wen Lanfang)
