Hunan TV News Broadcasts the School’s Public Welfare Cooperation Program

On Oct. 12th, Hunan TV News broadcasted our school’s welfare cooperation program- the public welfare micro-maker space named “Child Joy and Spring Sunshine”- in Yangming Hill Community of the Yuelu District. It’s broadcasted that Deputy Secretary of Hunan Youth League Committee Liao Lianghui and director Shi Li from the Volunteer Activity Guidance Center inspected our school’s cooperation program of youth volunteer service, visited our school’s youth volunteers and joined in the public welfare DIY activity with the handicapped children. Deputy Secretary of school’s League Committee Zeng Jing and Professor Xiong Ping, the program’s adviser, accompanied them during the visit.
Deputy Secretary Liao Lianghui paid visits to the handicapped children and their parents on behalf of the Provincial League Committee and acquired detailed operation and development information about the public welfare program. He also had an informal discussion with people from the Yangming Hill Community, the League Committee of Hunan University of Commerce and departments cooperated with Changsha Exceptional Children Assistance Center as well as made pizza to fell the DIY for the public welfare.
Mr. Liao affirmed the achievements and influence of the program in the discussion meeting. According to Mr. Liao, this program should continue to strive for the governmental support and explore new realistic models for public welfare programs. The program is considered as the one with bright prospect, which can be further developed by making more efforts in using extensive social resources and new media platforms as well as endeavoring to gain policy support.
The “Child Joy and Spring Sunshine” program is a community survival planning aiming at achieving the supporting employment for the mentally handicapped and the supporting business startup for the families with handicapped people. Yangming Hill Community provides the business startup venues that are free of renting fee and utility bills. Changsha Spring Sunshine Exceptional Children Assistance Center is in charge of advocating, funding and supporting employment service for the mentally handicapped. Hunan University of Commerce offers volunteers and technical guidance. And the caring enterprises provide brand support. By this May, after the initial operation of this program in Yangming Hill Community, this program has balanced its revenues and expenditures as well as solved the employment problems of two parents whose children are mentally handicapped and four mentally handicapped persons.
Since March 2014, with the support and guidance from the provincial League Committee, our school’s League Committee has been positively acting as a go-between for Changsha Spring Sunshine Exceptional Children Assistance Center and Hunan Chuangye Ying Management Co., Ltd. Finally, we helped to bring about the caring cooperation between the handicapped families, the university, the enterprise and the community. For over a year, more than 200 volunteers from our university have participated into this program. They used their spare time to help the handicapped children study and did handmade items with their caring for the children’s growth. And they will continue to offer their volunteering service to the public welfare.
The Spring Sunshine Program has been offered as the exemplary program in the 2nd session of the Chinese Youth Volunteer Service Program Competition, the employment service base of the Hunan Federation of the Disabled Persons and the innovation and entrepreneurship demonstration base of Hunan Youth Volunteer Association.
