The School’s Final of 13th “ Lushan Cup” Debate Competition Ended Successfully

To enhance the construction of campus culture and enrich the campus life, the final of 13th “Lushan Cup” Debate Competition, sponsored by the School Youth League Committee and organized by the Students’ Union was held successfully in the moot court onJune 9th afternoon. The former principle school supervisor Li Zehua as well as the teachers from School of Economy and Trade, School of Business Administration took part in this activity. Director Liu Yizheng from Hunan Speech and Eloquence Association, debate team captain Han Xiaotian from Hunan University, former deputy secretary Zeng Jing from School Youth League Committee, Luo Dingbo from Students’ Affair Division, Cao Chen from School Youth League Committee served as judges of the competition.
It was reported that the 13th “Lushan Cup” Debate Competition started on April 24th, and 14 teams participated in it with 13 teams from main campus and one team from the northern branch of the school. Each team demonstrated intense debate around the topic of “whether one should take action before understanding when pursuing the dream of youth”,“should the construction of good academic atmosphere pay more attention to students’ knowledge accumulation or their moral cultivation” and“does the free development of e-finance bring more advantages or more disadvantages to the banking industry in our country” etc. Through the preliminaries, quarter-finals and semi-finals, School of Economy and Trade , School of Business Administration stood out and succeeded in advancing to the finals.
In the competition, as the affirmative side, School of Economy and Trade represented that “In the next ten years, Chinese economic growth rate can not be less than 7%”, and the negative side, School of Business Administration represented that “In the next ten years, Chinese economic growth rate can be lower than 7%”. In round 1 “Show Your Opinion”, the first debaters of both sides made passionate speech with examples and classic lines, which created a hot atmosphere quickly. In the following round “ Ask Each Other Questions ”, both sides tried their best to counter each other step by step. The third debater of negative side won applause at times for his humorous debating style while the third debater of affirmative sides was quick in thinking and answered the questions wittily, which heated the game. In the round “Free Debate”, debaters asked and answered each other sharply, which made the audience atmosphere reach a climax. Finally round came to the “ Sum up All the Arguments” in which the forth debater of affirmative side analyzed the debate title deeply and made a fluent speech, while the forth debater of negative side combined his speech with practice and loaded his pages with references. Their clear ideas and skilled closings gave the audience a deep impression.
After the debate, teacher Liu Yizheng commented on the debate. He expressed his affirmation of their debate ability and made a profound analysis of the debate title. He also suggested that the debaters could analyze the title in a deeper way. Finally, teacher Liu hoped all the students could learn some problems of the debate title, analyze the policy deeply rather than stay on the surface and apply the knowledge to their own growth.
With 91.785 points, School of Economy and Trade won the champion. The 13th “Lushan Cup” Debate Competition came to a successful ending with the warm applause of the students.
