The 21th English Speech Contest for College Students Was Held Successfully in Our University

In the afternoon of May 19th , the 21th English speech contest for college students sponsored by Teaching Affairs Division, Students’ Affairs Division, Communist Youth League Committee and organized by School of Foreign Languages was held in the multi-functional lecture hall of the library. Hu Chunhua from Teaching Affairs Division, general secretary Hu Yanfen, dean Bai Zhenxian, deputy dean Wen Lanfang from School of Foreign Languages, and representative teacher from Birmingham education group attended the contest. Teachers from School of Foreign Languages Li Youliang, Lv Yuye, Mo Jiaojiao and foreign teacher Peter served as judges.
After the preliminaries and semi-finals, a total of 15 contestants reached the finals. The speech contest was divided into two parts, three minutes of prepared speech and two minutes of impromptu speech. The theme of this contest was "Youth". Each contestant showed different understanding and attitude with their own experience. They also exhibited a wonderful feast of Standard English for the students present. Tan Hao from English Class 1303 who divided the theme into five parts and gave a unique interpretation won the favor of the judges. In the impromptu speech segment, the contestants focused on the topic "A man’s best friends are his ten fingers", elaborated the importance of family and friends. Their pure pronunciation and intonation won the judges unanimous affirmation.
Finally, Li Youliang made professional comments for the contestants and their impromptu speech. After fierce competition, Tan Hao, Tan Xin, Pan Yujie respectively obtained the first, second and third prize of English major group, Zhang Xinyi, Wei Qinglin, Li Chuwei and other eight students won awards of the non-English major group .
