News of Rednet.cn on Jun. 13 (Journalist Zhou Dan) Recently, the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China has written to the People's Government of Hunan Province, agreeing to change the name of Hunan University of Commerce (HNUC) to Hunan University of Technology and Business. At this point, the number of general institutes of higher education named after "university" in Hunan Province has increased to 13.
Hunan University of Technology and Business is located in Changsha, a famous historical and cultural city. Its school-running history can be traced back to 1949. It is a provincial full-time general institute of higher education covering economy, management, technology, science, law, culture, art and other disciplines. It is one of the first-batch universities enrolling the undergraduates in Hunan Province, an excellent university in undergraduate teaching level evaluation of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, a doctoral degree awarding construction unit, an application-oriented undergraduate institution under national industry-education integration development project of "the 13thFive-year Plan", one of the first batch of top 100 "demonstration universities of deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform", a practical education, innovation and entrepreneurship base of universities in the whole country, and one of top 50 universities with typical experience of innovation and entrepreneurship in China. The university has a complete and reasonable talent team led by academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and has 1,284 faculty members, including 911 full-time teachers and 151 teachers with high professional titles. The university has trained more than 110,000 excellent technology & business and finance & economics talents for the country, which is known as "the Base of Cultivating the Economic Hunan Army and the Cradle of Cultivating Professional Entrepreneurs".
Six first-class disciplines of the university were selected into the "Ranking of the Best Disciplines in China" released by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy in 2018, of which Management Science and Engineering ranked in the top 10%, ranking 21stin China and 1stin universities in the province. There are 4 authorized points for the doctoral degree, 8 authorized points for first-level discipline master degree and 8 authorized points for the master degree. Since 2013, the university has undertaken 1,545 scientific research projects at all levels, including 95 national projects, and won one first prize, second prize and third prize, respectively, of excellent scientific research achievements (Humanities and Social Sciences) of institutions of higher learning of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, of which the first prize filled the gap in Hunan Province.
Previously, in addition to Central South University and Hunan University, there were 2 non-comprehensive universities out of 10 provincial "universities" in the general institutes of higher education of the whole province, with agriculture, forestry, medicine, normal, science and technology as the main disciplines. The successful rename of Hunan University of Technology and Business made up for the lack of technology & business and finance & economics "universities" in Hunan, optimized the layout of higher education of the whole province, added new impetus for high-quality development of higher education in Hunan Province, and provided better choices for the majority of examinees and parents.
