International Symposium on Low Carbon Development——Principal of HUC Delivers Theme Speech

Recently, the 3rd Tsinghua--Harvard International Symposium on low carbon development and public policy was held in Tsinghua University. The symposium co-sponsored by Tsinghua University and Harvard University has already been held for twice successfully in 2014 and 2015.

Set in the background of Paris Agreement and China’s 13th Five Year Plan, over 100 senior scholars, government officials and industry professionals are invited to jointly discuss public policies and practices for facilitating low carbon development to better promote the sustainable development of global social economy. The guests attended are vice minister of Environment Protection Li Ganjie, vice minister of Science and Technology Li Meng, deputy director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China He Hongming, deputy party secretary of Tsinghua University Professor Shi Zongkai, US President's science adviser Professor Daniel Schrag, and Professors as Robert Stavins, Venkatesh Narayanamurti from Harvard University and many other representatives from Tsinghua University.

As the guest of the organizing committee, HUC principal Chen Xiaohong, gave a theme speech entitled “Practices on Two-Oriented Society and Ecological Civilization Construction——Experiences on ‘Two-Oriented Society’ comprehensive reform pilot district, Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan (CZT) city cluster” .

The report made an overall description of the great achievements in the fields of Two-Oriented Society and ecological civilization construction in CZT city cluster, the National’ comprehensive reform pilot district. Later on, Principal Chen Xiaohong proceeded to have a comprehensive dialogue with Chinese and American experts about the duty of local government on low-carbon development and rural resources. Experts expressed high compliments to the innovational measures that Hunan Province took in Two-Oriented Society and Ecological Civilization Construction. The theme speech indicated that the representative accomplishments and research power of HUC on Two-Oriented Society and Ecological Civilization, and further enhanced the university’s international influence and academic reputation effectively. More importantly, it constructed a sound external environment for the launch of HUC’s “three-rise” and “district–school cooperation” strategies.
