[Xiaoxiang Morning News] Xie Bingying’s Life Photos Exhibited in Hunan University of Commerce

   On March 7, a day before International Women’s Day, Hunan University of Commerce and Foreign Affairs Office of Lengshuijiang City jointly held a photo exhibition of Xie Bingying, a leader of modern women, a pioneer of the national revolution and the Chinese women’s liberation movement, a great female soldier in the Anti-Japanese War and a splendid writer, to celebrate her 110th birthday.

Xie Bingying, whose hometown is Duoshan County, Lenfshuijiang City, Hunan Province was famous for writing, Army Diary in 1927, and was praised by French writer Romain Rolland as “a modern woman with struggling spirits”. In 1936, she was put in Japanese prison and cruelly tortured both physically and spiritually because she attacked the last Chinese emperor Puyi’s behavior of betraying the country in that period. With the hatred of family and the country, she organized “Hunan Women Field Service” and printed “Don’t return alive without destroying Japanese pirates.” on the martial attire in 1937. Wang Peiliang, director of Department of Convention and Exhibition Economics and Management in our university introduced that she was one of the most active and popular writers during in the Anti-Japanese War. Her successively published popular works included New Army Diary, On the Firing Line, Soldiers’ Hands, The Fifth War Zone Pilgrimage, Sisters, Plum Girl, Letter for Young Writers, Essay Selections About the War and so on. For her total 365 works of more than 80 kinds with about 20 million characters, she was praised as the grandmother of “Female Soldiers” literature in Chinese new literary history”.

Wang Hanqing, the general secretary of Party Branch of Hunan University of Commerce said that the purpose of holding the exhibition was to stimulate girls to learn from Xie Bingying’s spirits of self-independence, self-improvement, rich connotation and good cultivation and to pursue their dreams and create their splendid lives constantly.
