“Xinhua Net”, Hunan University of Commerce: To Make the Campus as Teachers and Students’ Beautiful Home

“It is really the pace of changing HUC into a fresh university.” Recently, Hunan University of Commerce has improved teachers and students’ happiness index by the construction of “Lighting, Beautifying, Greening, and Two-orientedness”, which won a flood of’ praise from the students at the university.

When the reporter came into the individual study room on the ground floor of the library, he found this big room, which occupied about 200 square meters, was spaced by the book-shelves and bar counters. He felt he was standing in a coffee bar because of the tender lights, the tables and chairs which were laid flexibly, those plain and elegant small pots, and small ornaments which could be seen here and there. The students were sitting around the tables in twos and threes, or reading the books quietly, or discussing in low voices. What he saw made him sigh with emotion, “It is really a feeling of Luxury, Large, Level-up to study by oneself here”.

When coming to the Education Sunshine Services Center, which stood on the east side of the campus, the reporter felt its brevity and high efficiency, due to the spacious space, detailed service guidelines and warm and thoughtful services. Eight functional departments, such as the Academic Affairs Division, Student Affairs Office, Security Division, offered one-stop services for the teachers and students here, which made him feel the fresh atmosphere brought by the active, professional and humanized modern management concepts to the campus of the university,

“The development of the university has stepped into the New Normal State. Teachers and students have higher demands for campus life and so the construction of the campus should purse high quality and high grade,” said the person in charge of the Logistics Division of the university. He also told the reporter that the book bar and the Education Sunshine Services Center were renovated during the summer vocation, which cost the university 500,000 yuan.

Hunan University of Commerce is one of the Demonstration Bases of Two-oriented Society of Hunan Province. The university has raised funds in various ways and has strengthened the construction of the campus to make the campus become the beautiful home of the teachers and students since the beginning of this year. 2,400,000 yuan was invested to build the 8000-square-meter standard plastic sports field and 380,000 yuan was spent on the Greening Project of the south facing foot of Tiger Hill. The university also invested 210,000 yuan to transform all the roads lights with the lamp source of LED, which can save electricity 20,000 degrees a year, and 250,000 yuan to transform the iron water pumps into stainless steel water pumps, which can save about half of energy. By investing 130,000 yuan, the university will change the main pipes of water supplying of the playground into PE pipes and introduce the remote monitoring system of water and electricity. The outsides of the three office buildings will be renovated and cleaned, and all the guidance system on campus will be planned and updated. Such measures will be taken  for the Student Apartments or dormitories as to equip monitors in every Student Apartment Building, to supply warm water for all the dormitories and to equip all the dormitories on the North Campus with air-conditioners.

It was reported that there would be more changes in the following construction of the campus. In order to relieve the pressure of accommodation and to improve students’ living condition, Two Student Apartment Buildings will be built and put into use in September of next year. The new design of electricity net and the arrangement of the distribution wires will be finished as soon as possible for the purpose of building the “Smart Campus” with high efficiency. The university will also promote the power capacity with all strength and equip all the dormitories with air-conditioners. Sand Carving Culture Wall and campus sculptures will be added in order to thicken the atmosphere of campus culture. The building of the landscape platforms and greening passages will make the Tiger Hill become a comfortable and pleasant Hill Park. (Chao Jinwen)
