Today, reporters learned from Hunan University of Commerce: in mid-March, WU Zhongbei, associate professor of aesthetic education center in this university, received an exclusive interview by “New York Lounge” of Sinovision, recommending authentic Chinese zither art to the American people.

On November 2010, WU Zhongbei went to Alfred University in America as a teacher abroad funded by the state to teach such two courses as “zither performance” and “zither orchestra”. She is the first person whose zither performance is regarded as credit course in America.

WU Zhongbei said that Americans are crazy about Chinese martial arts. They often associate the zither with martial arts movie scenes together, considering that practicing the zither is a handsome and cool thing. Moreover, in the United States, more boys learn to play the zither than girls do.

In recent years, WU Zhongbei and her colleagues made performance touring and held nearly 100 cultural events in school districts with Chinese courses provided by the Confucius Institute in Alfred University. The local Sun News humorously reported: “Playing Tai Chi, listening to zither and playing mahjongg have become new fashion of daily life for residents of Alfred town.”

WU Zhongbei is a typical Hunan girl. She grew up in Changsha and started to work in Hunan University of Commerce after graduating from Hunan Normal University. She said that it is her honor to bring rhyme and feeling of Hunan to the United States.
