[Lushan Lecture] Academician He You of Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence Invited to Give Lecture

On the morning of 6th, November, He You, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and Vice Chairman of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI), was invited to give an online lecture atthe 143th Lushan Lecture and the 6th Lecture of the Changsha Artificial Intelligence Social Laboratory Academic Forum. The lecture's theme is "Frontiersof Artificial Intelligence Development". The lecture also set up an offline venue in Conference Room 1720 and some classrooms in the Economic Management Complex. Yi Mianyang,Vice President of HUTB,presided over theevent. More than 600 teachers and students from the School of Intelligent Engineering and Manufacturing listened to the lecture.

Academician He You introduced the origin and development of artificial intelligence in detail, and introduced the theoretical frontiers of artificial intelligence development in detail from four aspects, namely "pre-training model", "unsupervised learning", "confrontation game" and "neural radiation field". He pointed out that artificial intelligence has gradually developed from building "big models" to building "strong models." Academician He You elaborated on "unsupervised learning" through theoretical methods such as "comparative learning," "mask learning" and "pre-training + mask learning," and introduced the algorithm application of "neural radiation field-NeRF" and a new image generation method "GIRAFFE" based on the idea of “NeRF".

Academician He You also expounded the technological frontiers of artificial intelligence development in a simple way. He pointed out that artificial intelligence technology has been used to support many fields such as "automatic driving," "brain-like perception and computing" and "from AR/VR/MR to metaverse." He explained the application of artificial intelligence technology in the field of "brain-like perception and computing" by citing examples such as "high frame rate reconstruction of event camera combined with color camera" and "high dynamic reconstruction of event camera combined with gray scale camera."

At the end of the lecture, Academician He You compared the artificial intelligence development in China with that in the U.S. in terms of industrial layout, atlas, enterprises, talent, papers, patents, investment and manufacturers. He said that the development of human modernization is experiencing both development and changes in an era of artificial intelligence. China's innovation strategy, talent advantage, huge market and strong national strength give it the opportunity to bring about better times.

He You is an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Vice Chairman of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence. He graduated from Tsinghua University in 1997 with an engineering doctor’s degree in Communication and Information System. He also studied in Germany. He was a member of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and a National Outstanding Teacher. He has also served as a member of CAAI/CIE/CAA/CIC/CSF/IET, a member of the State Council Discipline Appraisal Group, a member of the evaluation committee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and a member of the advisory expert committee of the Information Division of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He mainly focuses on the research fields of signal detection, information fusion, intelligent technology and application. As the first author, he won 4 second prizes of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, 1 first prize and 1 second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award, and 11 provincial and ministerial-level first prizes. He also authorized more than 60 Chinese invention patents and software copyrights. He has won the 100 Excellent Doctoral Dissertations of China, and published more than 260 important papers and 6 monographs in IEEE Transactions. He has been selected into the "National Million Talents Project" and won the Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, Qiushi Project Award, the National Achievement Award for Returned Overseas Students, and the Highest Science and Technology Award of Shandong Province.
