HUTB Teacher and Student Choruses Win 3 Prizes in the 16th CICF

2022-08-10

Recently, the competition results of the 16th China International Chorus Festival (CICF) were released. Changfeng Chorus won the class II group (silver prize) in the young student category, Tianyin Teacher Chorus won the class III group (bronze prize) in the teacher category, and Tianyin Female Teacher Chorus won the class III group (bronze prize) in the teacher category.

HUTB Tianyin Teacher Chorus was established under the direct care and guidance of Chen Xiaohong, CAE Academician and Party Secretary of HUTB, in July, 2021. Academician Chen Xiaohong serves the honorary leader of the chorus, and proposed the target of “building the chorus into a teacher chorus with significant influence inside and outside HUTB”. HUTB employs Zhou Yuefeng, Vice President of Chorus-China, Chairman of the Hunan Provincial Chorus Association, and a doctoral supervisor from the College of Music of Hunan Normal University, to serve as the artist consultant. Liu Junjie and Chen Weizhu, young teachers from the School of Music of HUTB, serve as the permanent conductor and the piano art director, respectively. The chorus is composed of professors, doctors and young backbone teachers from the front line of teaching and scientific research as well as front-line workers from the management and service team. The chorus is divided into a mixed group and a female group. With positive enthusiasm and strong dedication to the art of chorus, all the members spent the after-work hours of noon and evening on rehearsal. Under the guidance of expert teachers, they trained earnestly to improve their chorus level. After nearly 1 year of training, they achieved a leapfrog improvement, competed with professional teams, and won honors for HUTB.

Changfeng Chorus of the School of Music was founded in October, 2020. Since its establishment, the chorus has participated in HUTB major performance activities on many occasions. The chorus won the second prize in the 6th Hunan College Student Art Exhibition. In December, 2021, the chorus held the 1st “HUTB Chorus” special chorus music concert. In April, 2022, the chorus was invited to participate in the Flowers Bloom in Spring program of Hunan TV.

Changfeng Chorus and Tianyin Chorus make positive contributions to the popularization of chorus art, and are important forces in building the “Artistic HUTB” campus culture brand of HUTB.

Founded in 1992 with the approval of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, the CICF is the only state-level international chorus festival in China, and held once every two years. The past 15 CICFs have been proved a great success. It has become the largest-scale and most influential chorus festival in the Asian-Pacific region. In this year’s CICF, 12 choruses from Hunan Province won the award. The number of prizes won by HUTB accounts for 1/4 of the total.

Because of COVID-19, the 16th CICF carried out online evaluation. More than 530 choruses from 52 countries and regions participated in the festival. (Labour Union and School of Music)
