HUTB Holds a Symposium between Xiangjiang Laboratory and Huawei

On the afternoon of August 16, a symposium between the Xiangjiang Laboratory and Huawei was held in the Conference Room 206 in the Technology Building of HUTB. Chen Xiaohong, CAE Academician, Director of the Xiangjiang Laboratory and Party Secretary of HUTB, Yi Mianyang, Vice President of HUTB, Peng Zhongyang, Member of the Supervisory Board and Lead of the Strategic Reserve of Huawei, and Yang Weijun, Senior Vice President and Deputy Lead of the Strategic Reserve of Huawei, attended the symposium. Some members of Academician Chen Xiaohong’s team of the Xiangjiang Laboratory, Zhang Dixuan, President of Huawei Ascend Computing Business, Lu Guang, Director of the Department of China Industrial Development and Ecology, and heads of relevant departments and subsidiaries participated in the symposium chaired by Vice President Yi Mianyang.
Chen expressed warm welcome to the distinguished guests from Huawei, spoke highly of Huawei’s strategic development, mission and responsibility, and outstanding contributions in recent years, and briefly introduced the development of the digital economy industry in Hunan as well as the strategic layout and construction progress of the Xiangjiang Laboratory. She said that the Xiangjiang Laboratory is built according to the national laboratory standards, services the high-quality development of digital economy, promotes the construction of the computing power, algorithm, computing basis and computing network centers, and carries out high-level research innovation and technological research in the areas of advanced computing and artificial intelligence. At the same time, she wished to carry out in-depth cooperation with industry leaders such as Huawei to yield more original technological results, solve the critical technology problems, and realize the demonstration and implementation of innovation results in specific application scenarios.
Supervisor Peng Zhongyang expressed sincere thanks to Academician Chen Xiaohong and the Xiangjiang Laboratory for their warm reception. He said that the Xiangjiang Laboratory led by Academician Chen Xiaohong is not only a major innovation platform for strengthening the computing power support, but also an important leading force in supporting and guiding the high-quality development of the computing industry, economy and society in Hunan. At the same time, he expressed an enthusiastic expectation and good vision for the cooperation between Huawei and the Xiangjiang Laboratory. He wished both sides to jointly seek innovation and carry out win-win cooperation in talent training, scientific research and industrial practice through laboratory co-construction and university-enterprise cooperation, so as to advance the cutting-edge technology and industry development of digital economy. Zhou Bin, CTO of Ascend Computing Business, elaborated on such subjects as Huawei’s profile, the artificial intelligence computing industry, the progress of cooperation in Hunan and thoughts on the cooperation with the Xiangjiang Laboratory.
All the participants watched the advertising video of the Xiangjiang Laboratory, heard the introduction to Huawei’s development, held in-depth exchanges and discussions on computing power support, computing-network integration, application scenarios, industrial project implementation, talent training and cooperation mode, and reached a consensus on comprehensively deepening the cooperation on laboratory co-construction and accelerating the university-enterprise cooperation and the integration of industries into education.
Academician Chen Xiaohong made concluding remarks at the symposium. She said that through cooperation, the Xiangjiang Laboratory and Huawei will have an important role to play in promoting the development of artificial intelligence, advanced computing and digital economy. She wished both sides to cooperate to build a domestically-leading and international top research innovation platform for advanced computing and artificial intelligence, build the laboratory into a powerful digital base, support the construction of relevant laboratories in Hunan, and support Hunan and even the country in improving the strength, quality and size of the digital economy industry.
