On the morning of April 25, Mao Weiming, Governor of Hunan Provincial People's Government, presided over the executive meeting of the provincial government to study and deploy the construction of Xiangjiang Laboratory and other related work. Li Zhijian, Party Secretary and Director of China Hunan Provincial Science & Technology Department, reported on the construction of Xiangjiang Laboratory. Chen Xiaohong, CAE Academician and Party Secretary, and Yi Mianyang, Vice President, attended the meeting.
The executive meeting of the provincial government passed the Construction Plan of Xiangjiang Laboratory in principle. It was emphasized in the meeting that it is necessary to seize the great opportunity of the national "East Data and West Computing" project, combine the demands and trends of future with what Hunan can do, promote the construction of Xiangjiang Laboratory with high standing planning, high starting point layout and high standards, identify the right position, strengthen the advantages, make the mechanism flexible and improve the environment, and strive to build a national strategic S & T force for the advanced computing and artificial intelligence.
Professor Chen Xiaohong, CAE Academician and Party Secretary, serves as the Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory to gather the S & T innovation resources of HUTB, National University of Defense Technology, Central South University, Hunan University and other universities in conjunction with the well-known enterprises such as CRRC Corporation Limited in Hunan, Hunan Valin Iron & Steel Group Co., Ltd., SANY Group Co., Ltd., Baidu Online Network Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., give full play to the supporting role of major innovation platforms such as the National Center for Basic Science, the National Key Laboratory of High Performance Computing and the National Supercomputing Changsha Center, gather a group of high-level innovation teams led by academicians, form a complete talent chain, innovation chain and industrial chain, and build a world-class advanced computing and artificial intelligence laboratory.
The construction of Xiangjiang Laboratory is an important move to implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech on inspecting Hunan, an arrangement to execute the decision made by the 12th Party Congress to construct the Hunan Laboratory, and a practical plan to promote the "three major supports and eight key points". Xiangjiang Laboratory aims at benchmarking the national laboratories and serving the development of key industries in our province, with the main task of breaking through strategic, forward-looking and basic major scientific issues and key core technologies in the fields of advanced computing and artificial intelligence, and carrying out research on the common basic theories and methods of advanced computing and artificial intelligence facing the application fields such as intelligent manufacturing, smart medical care, smart resources, energy and environment, smart transportation and logistics, scientific supervision and social governance, digital media, etc., to support and lead the high-quality development of computing industry and economy and society in our province.
