[Doing Practical Work for Faculty and Students] A Friendship Pavilion, A Key to Happiness
2021-12-23
Recently, the Friendship Pavilion, the intersection between HUTB Hetang Community and the off-campus Heyuan Community, was completed and put into use, and the new grid fences between the two communities were built, which thoroughly addressed the life demands from the teaching and administrative staff owners of Heyuan Community for years.
Heyuan Community was built in 2003 and only a wall distance from HUTB Hetang Community. Heyuan Community is home to 288 families, and our teaching and administrative staff are from 237 families. As the community is not owned by HUTB, only a fence is built to separate it from the campus, causing certain inconvenience to the teaching and administrative staff living in the community when they enter the campus. Besides, the old fence is in bad repair and with severe hidden safety hazards, resulting in safety threats to residents in the community.

After the re-election of the Heyuan Community Owner Committee in 2018, the newly-elected Owner Committee received the appeals from many staff owners for connecting the two Communities and repairing the fence. “The staff owners in Heyuan Community hoped that the University could solve the two problems, and the Community Owner Committee actively reported their appeals to the University by submitting relevant proposal reports to HUTB Party Committee Office in Jan, 2021.” said Xie Jiandong, Deputy Director of Audit Division and a member of Heyuan Community Owner Committee.
After receiving the reports submitted by Heyuan Community Owner Committee, HUTB Party Committee Office paid high attention to the problems raised, and was determined to practically solve the “pain point” and “difficult point” concerns of the staff owners after discussions and researches, and assigned the tasks of connecting the two Communities and renovating the fence. Logistics Service Division, Security Division, HUTB Party Committee Office and other departments concerned immediately started demonstration and conducted several on-site work and surveys focusing on project construction, campus security management, epidemic prevention and control and other relevant issues, and finally developed a feasible construction scheme after repeated arguments. The project commenced on April 28 and was put into use after completion in Nov, 20.

The building of Friendship Pavilion and the new fence exhilarate the staff residing in Heyuan Community, as they believe that HUTB did something practical and good to them and gave them stronger sense of happiness, belonging and security. “It is pleasant to walk through the exquisite kiosk when I go to work and come back from work, and the lifestyle is greatly improved in the Community, and the new fence also makes me feel safe.” “I don’t feel so rushed when I go to work after sending my grandson to the kindergarten, and it is really convenient.” “Friendship Pavilion brings great convenience to our life and makes us feel warm.” Everyone praises the new “happy project” and is grateful to HUTB for listening to people’s voices and addressing their concerns, “each and every branch and leaf are always soulful”.
To enrich the cultural connotation of the Friendship Pavilion, HUTB designed it in the Chinese style, beautified and greened the surroundings, and specially organized a couplet collection activity for the Pavilion; 22 couplets were collected from the teachers and students, and “A wall separates south and north roads, A happy door links people closely together”, and “A door cannot tear friends apart, All within the Four Seas are brothers.” were selected, carved on wood and hung on the posts, perfectly interpreting the original intention of building Friendship Pavilion.
Chen Zhiyong, Deputy Director of Logistics Service Division and also the project manager, said that they communicated with the owners of Heyuan Community and Hetang Community together with HUTB Party Committee Office, Security Division, Retirement Division, etc., guided them to reach a consensus and managed to satisfy their reasonable demands in order to ensure the smooth project construction, and endeavored to accomplish the practical thing for everyone.
After the completion of Friendship Pavilion and the new fence, all the teaching staff owners of Heyuan Community wrote a thank-you letter to HUTB Party Committee Office expressing their gratitude and also their desire to make greater contributions to the development of HUTB by further enhancing vigor and going ahead in harmony.

Since the first congress of Party representatives of HUTB, the HUTB Party Committee has been conducting in-depth learning and education of the Party history, and solidly promoting the practical activity of “doing practical things for teachers and students”, insisting on “learning the Party history, understanding the Party’s ideology, bringing tangible benefits to people, and ushering in new prospects”; implemented a series of down-to-earth measures centered on teachers’ and students’ real demands, promoted the implementation of “Happy HUTB”, all of which constantly improve their sense of achievement, happiness and security, make them feel more confident and prouder as HUTB members, and further stimulate their passion for realizing the “Three Admission and Three Highlands” objective.
