[Achievements during “13th Five-year Plan”] Chapter of Campus Infrastructure: Focus on Construction for New Campus Looks

Under the right leadership of the Party Committee Office and other administrative departments of HUST during the “13th Five-year Plan” period, HUTB is led by the “Three-upgrade Strategy” goal, and closely follows the campus infrastructure plan during the “13th Five-year Plan” period. The infrastructure conditions got remarkably enhanced, the campus environment is brand-new, landmark buildings and “new Instagram-Worthy locations” spring up constantly, and the campuses are “slightly changed in one year, greatly changed in three years, and overwhelmingly changed in five years”, all of which offer hardware facility guarantee for the leap-forward development of HUTS.
New projects completed with high quality
HUTB has built the new Economic Management Complex (teaching building of economic management and comprehensive building of economic management experiments and training) with an area of 63,000 m2, the new landmark building of HUTB; Block 1 and Block 2 of Cuiyan Student Apartments with the area of 16,214.45 m2. HUTB has invested a cumulative amount of RMB540 million to build buildings of teaching, experiment, internship and practice, and student apartments with the total area of 80,000 m2, which dramatically alleviated the problem of insufficient schooling area, and further improved the overall campus scene. At the same time, the new student apartments with the area of 7,200 m2 in Lingnan Campus have been put into use in Sept, 2021.
Old buildings improved in an all-round way
HUTB has completed quality-improving renovation of all the old office buildings, teaching buildings, lab buildings, student apartments, and dining halls in South Campus, and the teaching buildings, dining halls, some student apartments, and Student Activity Center in North Campus; that of 23 blocks of Young Faculty Apartments, the Veteran Office Building of Labour Union, laboratories of School of Art & Design, Teaching and Scientific Research Base of Collaborative Innovation Center for Clean Government Construction, and student activity centers; and also renovated the West Gate of South Campus, refusal disposal sites in North Campus, etc.
Pedestrian and traffic passages smooth in campus
HUTB has built external staircases connecting Xianjia Student Apartments and Lingnan Campus, and broadened the westward connector between the Main Campus and Lingnan Campus, which fundamentally changed clogged traffic in the South Campus caused by the end-type road network; completed the construction of the ring road in the North Campus, connecting all the roads in the North Campus as a ring; actively been in contact with Changsha Municipal People's Government, People’s Government of Hunan Xiangjiang New Area, and People's Government of Yuelu District, resulting in that the governments would entirely fund the construction of the Tongzipo Road Overpass.
Main roads asphalted
HUTB has completed asphaltization reconstruction of roads in the South Campus (Phase I), that of the main road to the north of Chufeng Bridge, that of roads around Cuiya Student’s Apartments Block 1 and Block 2, that of roads around permanent buildings in Lingnan Campus, that of roads in Lingnan Campus (Phase II), that of roads connecting Lingnan Campus and the Main Campus, and that of Yingcai Road, the lawn in the front of Technology Building, roads around School of International Business, roads around Office Building of Graduate School in Lingnan Campus, etc.
Indoor and outdoor sport fields rubberized
HUTB has completed the rubberized reconstruction of all the indoor and outdoor basketball and volleyball courts both in the South Campus and the North Campus in an all-round way; and built a new tennis ball in the South Campus, an indoor storm-proof playground, outdoor volleyball and badminton courts in the North Campus, fully satisfying teachers’ and students’ demands of doing sports and exercises.
A group of students’ activity venues built
HUTB has built a batch of Instagram-worthy locations, such as Chufeng Academy, Xiande Maker Academy, Cuiya Maker Academy, Qiushi Academy, Wenjin Bookbar, etc.; built Sports Teaching and Activity Center, indoor storm-proof playground in the North Campus, tennis court in the South Campus and other sports venues; built College Student Mental Health Education Center and Collaborative Innovation Center for Clean Government Construction and its Showroom; and built a batch of innovative and entrepreneurial incubation space, such as Maker Center, Creation Center, Buduongtang, Maker Workshop, Creative Workshop, Creation Space, etc.
Infrastructure safety loopholes fully eliminated in campus
HUTB has completed the overall landslide rescue and restoration of the north bleacher of the Track and Field Stadium in the South Campus, the soil landslide rescue and restoration of the southwest corner of Laohuling Mountain, the renovation of the retaining wall in the west of the Sunshine Service Hall, the slope protection restoration of Wangyue Road, Xianjia Sub-district to the east of HUTB, coordinated to accomplish the slope protection and other geological disaster treatment of Hetang Road and Xiande Student Apartments implemented by Yuelu District Bureau of Natural Resources funded by Department of Natural Resources of Hunan Province, which fully eliminated infrastructure safety loopholes in campuses.
New beautiful and ecological campuses
HUTB has completed Laohuling Park, campus sculptures, campus cultural walls, the South Gate on Tongzipo Road, central landscapes, and brightening exterior walls of the Economic Management Complex, and also the central square in the North Campus, and renovating public toilets, making campuses look brand-new; at the same time, HUTB has built a batch of exquisite gardens, such as Hui Garden, Mei Garden, Zhu Garden, Chang Garden, Xin Garden, Chuang Garden, Si Garden, and realized the new pattern of “one scenic sport within three steps and one park within five steps in campus”. HUTB continuously greens, brightens, beautifies and purifies the public campus environment and gives the campuses a completely new look.
Notable results achieved in building smart campuses
The quality improvement of campus network broadband lines has realized the full coverage of wired and wireless networks, and information infrastructures, such as the indoor distributed system, basic smart campus platform, network security platform, data center and machine room, have been completed, all of which satisfy the high-speed development demands of HUTB. The implementation of self-service printing, “all-in-one student card” has obviously enhanced the campus service level. The project of Smart Teaching Environment has effectively supported innovation in education and teaching. Tens of smart classrooms and the project of public service platform in the North Campus and that of smart teaching system platform in the South Campus have effectively improved the smart teaching environment. The centralized control of streamliving and recording broadcast, remote class monitoring, and impassive class evaluation realized the “110+ nanny-style” service. The uniform identity authentication, cloud platform, HUTB E card, big data analysis platform and other completed projects of office automation and smart security protection make campus management efficient and safe.
Labs completed to a high standard
HUTB has completed a variety of economic management laboratories, such as Smart Panorama Enterprise Operation and Management Simulation Laboratory, Cross-border E-commerce Laboratory, Data Science and Financial Computational Simulation Laboratory, Virtual Transaction and Wealth Management Laboratory, Smart Finance and Audit Laboratory, Converged Media Laboratory, Smart Supply Chain Simulation Laboratory, All-for-one Tourism Planning and Digital Decision Laboratory, etc.; science and engineering laboratories, including Intelligent Detection and Big Data Analysis Laboratory, Intelligent Robot Technology Laboratory, AI Innovation Technology Laboratory, Smart Manufacturing Laboratory, Industrial Internet Laboratory, Ecological Environment and Big Data Analysis Laboratory, Smart Resource and Environmental Management Laboratory, Smart Logistics Laboratory, New Retail VR Technology Laboratory, Smart City Laboratory, etc. All the labs have provided stronger support for HUTB in training innovative, entrepreneurial and application-oriented talents, and generated satisfactory demonstration and radiation effects.
