HUTB Holds Concert to Mark School of Music Inauguration

In the evening of October 9, HUTB held a grand celebration concert to celebrate the inauguration of the School of Music in the Lecture Hall of the Economic Management Complex. President Huang Xin, Vice Party Secretary Xiao Xiaoqin, other university leaders on campus and faculty and students enjoyed the feast together.

 

Academician Fan Guobin, former deputy chief engineer of China Academy of Engineering Physics, Major General Tan Yuejin, former dean of the School of Information System and Management of National University of Defense Technology, Professor Yu Yuelong, former Party Secretary of School of Architecture and Art of Central South University and other guests were invited to the event. The concert featured performers including Xiao Ming, a NationalClass-A Conductor and dean of the School of Music, NationalClass-A Performer Zhang Yinyue, Liu Yiran, a NationalClass-A Performer of China National Opera House, Xia Yu, a coloratura soprano of China National Opera House, Zhou Nan, a contract artist of Germany’s Hamburg State Opera and faculty and students from schools of HUTB.

The concert started with an orchestral performance of Ode to Red Flag by the Symphony Orchestra of Central South University and the Symphony Orchestra of HUTB under the command of Dean Xiao Ming. The male solo Dedicate Everything to the Party performed by Liu Yiran, a famous singer and NationalClass-A Performer of China National Opera House, described the great belief of CPC members to "dedicate everything to the Party.” The melody of Nessun dorma was passionate, fascinating and deeply shocking. Zhang Yinyue, a NationalClass-A Performer and vice president of Hunan Opera and Dance Theatre, performed the erhu solo Galloping WarHorses, which featured a forceful rhythm, making the audience feel like being in a fierce battlefield with war horses neighing, speeding, charging and fighting tenaciously. Song Wei and Zhou Hao of the School of Music of HUTB presented an original poetry recitation with music, Flowers on the Paddy Field Path, which carried deep love for HUTB. The female solo Song of Laughter performed by Xia Yu, a famous coloratura soprano of China National Opera House, was tactfully moving, and the cadence of singing filled the hall with cheerful atmosphere. The melody of Variations on Mayra was light and bright, and the singing was loud and clear, which presented the audience with a vivid grassland scene. The male solo Hong Yan performed by Zhou Nan, a contract artist of Germany’s Hamburg State Opera, was rich and profound, creating a distant and broad artistic conception. The Toreador Song featured a powerful rhythm and magnificent voice, which vividly showed a bullfighting hero in front of the audience. Liu Yiran, Xia Yu, Zhou Nan, Liu Yaqian and Liu Yaqian and Changfeng Choir of the School of Music brought the duet Libiamo ne' lieti calici, which was lively and full of youthful vitality, filling the hall with vitality and delight. The chorus Ode to the Red Plum Blossoms brought by Changfeng Choir of HUTB was plain, tactful, high-pitched and firm, which lauded magnanimous mind and magnificent feelings of the Party members. In the end, under the lead of the choir, all the teachers and students stood up and sang Ode to the Motherland. The singing was magnificent, enthusiastic, bold and powerful, which pushed the atmosphere of the concert to the climax, which came to a successful conclusion in passionate atmosphere.

Before the concert, several world-renowned artists sent congratulations for the inauguration of the School of Music via video link, including renowned female conductor Zheng Xiaoying, who is also music director of Beijing Women'sPhilharmonicChamberOrchestra, world-renowned composer and conductor Tan Dun, Yu Feng, president of theCentralConservatory of Music, Liao Changyong, president of theShanghai Conservatory of Music, Danilov, vice president of Rostov State Rachmaninov Conservatoire of Russia and Dima, music director of Belgorod National Symphony Orchestra of Russia.

 

The School of Music of HUTB was formerly the Music Performance Department of the School of Design and Art. Approved by Department of Education of Hunan Province (Xiang Jiao Tong [2017] No.99) and filed by the Ministry of Education of China (Jiao Gao [2017] No.2), the school officially started to enroll undergraduates in 2017. The professional academic system is 4 years with a degree of Bachelor of Arts. 30 students from the undergraduate class of 2021 were the first batch of graduates, and now there are 219 students in this major. The school boasts a strong faculty team, including honorary dean Professor Yu Hai, dean Professor Xiao Ming, and professors of the introducing intelligence program Deng Dongyuan, Fu Liaoyuan, Liu Jianhui, Ouyang Qin, Wen Zhengqiu and Xu Xin. The school strives to build a system of "Art + HUTB" to cultivate talent in musical performance.
