HUTB Holds the Establishment and Working Conference of 1st Academic Committee

On the afternoon of September 15, the establishment and working conference of 1st Academic Committee was held in the lecture hall of Lingnan Innovation Center. HUTB Party Secretary and CAE Academician Chen Xiaohong attended the conference. All members of the 1st Academic Committee were present.
Chen Xiaohong presided over the establishment meeting of the 1st Academic Committee of HUTB. All 27 members of the 1st Academic Committee were determined after nominated by the secondary institutions, elected by all professors and associate professors with doctoral degrees, and approved by HUTB Party Committee. According to its Articles of Association, Chairman and Vice Chairman shall be nominated by HUTB and elected by all the committee members. HUTB Party Committee decided to nominate Wang Minggao as the Chairman and Zhang Ling, Yi Mianyang, Zhou Xiancheng and Du Yan as the Vice Chairmen. All members voted for them.
Later, Chen Xiaohong announced the establishment of the 1st Academic Committee of HUTB, with Wang Minggao as the Chairman, Zhang Ling, Yi Mianyang, Zhou Xiancheng and Du Yan as the Vice Chairmen, Wu Hongxing, Ren Jian, Xiang Guocheng, Liu Daobo, Liu Limei, Liu Jianqiu, Liu Saihong, Guan Hong, Yu Shaoqian, Zhou Kaijun, Zhou Wenjun, Zhou Junmin, Xu Xuesong, Tang Hongtao, Tang Zhaohui, Huang Fuhua, Ma Xuefeng, Peng Huancai, Xie Xiaoliang, Xie Yajun, Cai Hongyu and Yan Jianjun as the members. Meanwhile, on behalf of HUTB Party Committee, she put forward four requirements for the Academic Committee and its members to perform their duties. First, they should stick to academic norms, ethics and bottom line, and safeguard academic honor. They should, in accordance with the requirements of General Secretary Xi Jinping, constantly improve their academic level, solve new problems, study real problems, serve the national demand and social difficulties and pain points, break through the bottlenecks, stick to academic ethics, set up standards and guidance, and standing at the new development point of HUTB, promote the disciplinary construction, scientific research, talent training and social services to a new level based on the "three admissions and three highlands" goal determined at HUTB Party congress. Second, they should adhere to the educational philosophy of "new engineering courses + new business courses + new liberal arts courses" integrated with science courses and vigorously promote their substantive integration to build a first-class university with first-class disciplines. Third, they should constantly improve their own academic level by keeping learning the big data, artificial intelligence, industrial Internet, block chain and other new-generation information technologies, integrating them with their own knowledge systems to realize transformation and upgrading, and strive to impart the most cutting-edge and best knowledge to the students. Fourth, they should actively promote the prosperity of academic culture in campus, organize academic activities such as academic lectures and salons, establish extensive contacts with the society and enterprises, invite high-level experts and scholars to give lectures and impart knowledge, and create a good academic atmosphere of gathering elites and talents.
Chen Xiaohong said that HUTB Party Committee and all the teachers and students have great expectations for the Academic Committee. It's hoped that all the members would cherish this honorable title, work hard and forge ahead with a high sense of responsibility and mission, and make greater contributions to realizing the strategic goal of "Three Admissions and Three Highlands" and building HUTB into a distinctive, innovative first-class university of technology and business.
Wang Minggao, Chairman of the 1st Academic Committee, made a speech on behalf of all members. He said, it's both an honor and a responsibility to be a member of the Academic Committee. It's hoped that everybody would, under the correct leadership of HUTB Party Committee and administrative units, take Academician Chen Xiaohong as an example, uphold the university motto "Sincerity & Credibility; Pragmatism & Innovation", carry forward the good academic tradition of HUTB, stick to academic morality, safeguard academic justice, exercise academic power in accordance with the laws and regulations, and actively offer advice and suggestions so as to contribute our wisdom and strength to the development of HUTB. Moreover, he believed that we should uphold the philosophy of "trust is invaluable", "development is what really matters to all" and "it takes a good blacksmith to make a good steel", and jointly create a good atmosphere for academic prosperity and development in HUTB.
The working conference was presided over by Chairman Wang Minggao. The members deliberated on such matters as adding university-level research institutions, recommending special professors and young candidates of Fu-RongScholarof Hunan Province 2021, etc..
