Professor Luo Zhiquan, Vice President of CUHK-Shenzhen, Visits HUTB

On the morning of September 18, Luo Zhiquan, Academician of The Academy of Science of the Royal Society of Canada and Vice President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen ("CUHK-Shenzhen"), paid a visit to HUTB. Chen Xiaohong, HUTB Party Secretary and CAE Academician, attended the meeting. Leaders of the Party Committee Office and Principal Office, Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies and Institute of Big Data and Internet Innovation, and members of Chen Xiaohong's team, were present. The meeting was held in Conference Room 1210, Economic Management Complex.

Chen Xiaohong extended a warm welcome to Vice President Luo Zhiquan. She introduced the orientation and goals of the Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, which takes big data, artificial intelligence and block chain as important technical support to serve the smart city, smart society, industrial Internet and public emergency management, etc. HUTB has obtained the approval for the first National Center for Basic Science in central China, and is thoroughly implementing the educational philosophy of "new engineering courses + new business courses + new liberal arts courses" integrated with science courses. It has optimized the layout of schools and disciplines, established a number of new engineering schools, and built a strategic cooperative relationship with some leading enterprises in manufacturing/digital industry and environmental service enterprises. With the continuous improvement of its comprehensive strength, the enrollment and employment have maintained a good momentum, and talents cultivated are welcomed by the society and enterprises. She hoped to strengthen the cooperation with CUHK-Shenzhen to promote mutual development.
Luo Zhiquan expressed his heartfelt thanks to Chen Xiaohong for her warm reception. He said that he was deeply impressed by Chen's excellent keynote speech at the World Computing Conference 2021, and many research directions were highly consistent. He shared his experience of studying and working abroad, and participating in founding CUHK-Shenzhen after returning to China; introduced the orientation, school layout, composition of Chinese and foreign teachers, discipline construction, multi-level talent cultivation, scientific research, laboratory platform, international education resources, university-enterprise cooperation and government policy support of CUHK-Shenzhen; and hoped to carry out in-depth cooperation with Chen Xiaohong in the researches of medical treatment and health, intelligent information system, government-enterprise big data, big data on social behavior, financial big data and software algorithm, etc., as well as academic exchanges and visits with HUTB.
After the meeting, the leaders visited the National Center for Basic Science, Provincial Key Laboratory and Engineering Research Center, Chufeng Academy in Economic Management Complex, Sports Center, Shuwei Western Restaurant in Lingnan Campus, etc., and high praised the outstanding achievements HUTB has made in recent years.
