HUTB Initiates Special Funding for Students Affected by Flood Disaster

2021-07-29

The country has entered the critical period of flood prevention. Heavy rainfall in Henan province caused Zhengzhou to suffer from severe flood disaster. The flood prevention situation is grim. Attaching high importance to flood prevention, HUTB has been worried about students in disaster areas. The university conducted investigation into the situation of students in disaster areas and initiated funding for those encountering difficulties at the earliest time possible.

The Party Committee Student Affairs Department and the Party Committee Graduate Affairs Department released the Notice on Distributing Temporary Allowances to Students in Flood Areas in Henan Province. All the schools are mobilized to contact affected students through wechat, QQ and mobile phone to gain a full understanding of economic losses suffered by students in disaster areas. The schools conducted one-to-one followup communication with each student in Henan to ensure that no one is left. The Party Committee Student Affairs Department formulated a special funding scheme. According to the scheme, upon contacting the school instructor, students from families which suffer from temporary economic difficulties due to extreme weather disaster may apply for temporary allowances and serious illness relief funds established by the university. The objects of funding are students in Henan (including newly enrolled students). The investigation indicated that 49 students from Henan were affected by the disaster (including the families of 13 newly enrolled students), of whom 18 students and their family members suffered from serious losses. The university will distribute special allowances of RMB1000 to each affected student, special allowances of RMB2000 to students whose family suffers from economic losses, and special allowances of RMB5000 to students whose family suffers from serious economic losses or is seriously affected by the disaster. The university will follow the development of disaster situation, and continue with subsequent funding to ensure that affected students worry no more about life and study. The university enjoined the instructors of schools to provide affected students with psychological counseling and encourage them to stay strong and be brave to overcome difficulties.

There is no love in disaster, but we have love in human’s heart. HUTB practices the concept of “supporting students in need, and pursuing education as top priority” with concrete actions, conveys the warmth of state and university to each affected student, advances the work of supporting education with financial assistance, and implements the fundamental task of promoting moral education.
