HUTB Holds Member Selection Meeting of First Academic Committee

On the afternoon of July 17, the member selection meeting of the first academic committee of HUTB was successfully held in Yingcai Lecture Hall, Library of HUTB, for the purpose of comprehensively implementing the “Three Progresses, Three Highlands” strategy proposed by the party committee of the university and striving to build an innovation-oriented, top-class university of industry and business with distinctive characteristics. The entire leadership of the university, including Chen Xiaohong, Party Secretary and Academician, Huang Xin, Vice Party Secretary and President, and Xiao Xiaoqin, Vice Party Secretary, attended the meeting. All the professors (including internally employed professors) and associate professors with doctoral degree (including internally employed associate professors) participated in the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Chief Leader Li Dingjun.
In her speech, Chen Xiaohong, Party Secretary and Academician, said that the previous academic committee made positive contributions to giving full play to “teaching of professors” and achieved excellent results. She also said that in accordance with the provisions of the Rules for Academic Committees at Institutions of Higher Educationand the Articles of Association of Academic Committee of HUTB, the academic committee of HUTB will hold an election to select members of the first academic committee of HUTB, which fully demonstrates the high importance the party committee attaches to the election.
Secretary Chen Xiaohong put forward three requirements with respect to the preparatory work of election: First, enhance the awareness of election. She said that academic committee is an important component of university governance structure, and will play an important role in the construction of “Double First-class” Initiative, academic evaluation, and academic development and construction. She also said that as the university is making every effort to realize the goal of “Three Progresses, Three Highlands” and build an innovation-oriented, top-class university of industry and business with distinctive characteristics, to select a group of professors with noble academic ethics and high academic achievement to form the first academic committee of HUTB is inevitably conducive to realizing the goal. She urged all participants to unify awareness, improve ideology, and exercise the voting right with high sense of responsibility.
Second, strictly abide by the discipline of election. She said that the work of selecting members of the first academic committee is a major event that bears on the development and effective governance of the university, and that the procedural and disciplinary requirements are strict. She expressed the hope that all the participants should strictly obey the discipline of election, cast the vote in a fair, just, independent and objective manner, and complete the election in an honest fashion.
Third, give full play to the exemplary role of academic committee. She said that all the participants are professors, associate professor and doctors, of whom 50 are excellent candidates selected by the university and schools. She expressed the hope that the candidates, especially professor nominated to take up the position of member, will influence teachers and students with good academic accomplishment and moral character, take the initiative in scaling academic heights, and make important contributions to building the university into an innovation-oriented, top-class university of industry and business with distinctive characteristics and supporting the state to achieve high-standard self-reliance in science and technology.
Under the organization and supervision of relevant personnel, all the participants earnestly filled in the vote, and completed the voting process in an orderly manner. Upon calculation, the voting results will be submitted to the party committee for examination and approval.
