[Lushan Lecture] Chen Xiaohong, HUTB Party Secretary and CAE Academician, Gives a Lecture for Postgraduates

On the morning of July 9, the 110th Lushan Lecture, chaired by Vice President Liu Guoquan, was held in the Lecture Hall, Economic Management Complex, with the attendees of leaders and staff of Scientific Research Administration Division and Graduate School, leaders of secondary training units, representatives of postgraduate officers, class advisors and tutors, and postgraduate class of 2022 and 2023. During the Lecture, Chen Xiaohong, HUTB Party Secretary and CAE Academician, gave a lecture entitled "Frontier Trends, Research and Innovation of Resource and Environmental Management (REM) in the Digital Economy Era", and shared the latest research achievements of National Center for Basic Science of "Theory and Application of Resources and Environmental Management in the Era of Digital Economy" for the postgraduate students.
Chen Xiaohong made thorough elaborations on five aspects, namely, "opportunities and challenges of REM under digital economy", "theoretical system of REM under digital economy", "key issues and key research fields", "exploration on the application and practice of intelligent management of resources and environment" and "research, innovation and talent growth in the digital economy era". She believed that digital economy has become an important "engine" of national economic growth, and digital technology will guide the transformation of energy and mining industries and help achieve "carbon peak and neutrality" goals. She pointed out that digital economy has gone through three stages: information economy, Internet economy and new economy. It's now defined as economic activities that exhibit a wide range of emerging patterns and forms, and that use digitized information as the key resource, Internet platform as an important information carrier and data technology innovation as the driving force. Digital economy consists of four core elements: digital informatization, Internet platform, emerging economic models and forms, and digital technology, featuring data support, integrated innovation, and openness and sharing. Digital economy research mainly covers eight fields, namely, digital transformation, industrial characteristics, digital technology, social economy, national policy, tax system, global trade and digital infrastructure.
Chen also analyzed the overall theoretical framework, core concepts and philosophies of REM under the digital economy, as well as the analytical framework of digital economy influence on REM theoretical development. She introduced the research prospects and key research fields and problems of digital economy on REM theoretical development, shared the latest practice and exploration achievements of academician teams, such as "Integrated Resource and Environmental Management Platform and Application under Digital Economy", "Application and Practice of Mineral Resource Management under Digital Economy" and "Application and Practice of Energy Management under Digital Economy", in the field of intelligent management of resources and environment. She also deeply analyzed the ways of talent growth in the digital economy era from six aspects, namely patriotic dedication, spirit of two bombs and one satellite, determination to be a noble-minded and sentimentalized "university student", determination to be a diligent and powerful "endeavourer", determination to be a studious and passionate "seeker", and determination to be a forward-looking and warm"transcender".
Chen Xiaohong pointed out that struggle is the most distinctive featureof youth, postgraduates are in a new era of " must struggle" and have a good time of " struggle", and the university is a big stage where everyone "can struggle". It's the greatest momentum, most fascinating place and most touching story in HUTB that everyone becomes a better self and the pillar of society. She hoped that everyone leads the innovation in interdisciplinary integration, has the courage to break though the boundaries, dares to explore the unknown and constantly strive for new academic heights; that everyone opens up a new realm and improves his/her humane accomplishment in the integration of science, humanity and arts; that everyone expands horizon in the integration of different cultures, learns to respect the cultural differences, constantly broaden the international vision, and learn from each other in a harmonious coexistence.
Finally, the postgraduate students spoke enthusiastically and asked a series of professional questions about the soft power building in smart city and smart society, international business research and practice and talent cultivation in the digital economy era, and main research fields of intelligent engineering and intelligent manufacturing. Chen answered the questions one by one, and encouraged the students to dare to think and practise, do research with indomitable spirit, adhere to problem-orientation and seeking truth from facts, so as to deliver satisfactory papers and apply their achievements on our motherland, contributing their own strength to the national and regional economic and social development.
The lecture given by Chen Xiaohong is based on the frontier with broad vision, rich connotations and simple explanations. The latest practice and exploration achievements introduced have inspired the research thoughts and methods of postgraduate students. There were bursts of warm applause at the scene. The students said that they will learn from Academician Chen Xiaohong and strive to grow into innovative, entrepreneurial, application-oriented and versatile talents with global vision, patriotism, professional quality and benevolent heart.
