2021-06-22

On the morning of June 17, Xia Yisheng, Secretary of Party Leadership Group, Hunan Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles, was invited to give the 4th "Cultural HUTB" forum of Lushan Lecture themed by "Question Consciousness in Literature & Art Studies". The lecture was chaired by President Huang Xin with attendees of Yang Hong, Degree Program Leader of School of Literature & Journalism, Dean Peng Wenzhong, and representatives of teachers and students from School ofLiterature & Journalism and School ofForeign Languages.

In the lecture, Secretary Xia Yisheng pointed out that learning should start from "question", and any research is the interpretation of the question. Based on literature and art research, he stressed that "question" is a key point that affects the development trend of people and things, and question consciousness is the attitude that we pay close attention to questions all the time, which is an important benchmark to measure academic standards. Xia demonstrated "how to find questions" by citing the classics combined with the large-scale epic dance drama Ode to the Earth based on Shibadong Village in Hunan: first, attention to or traceability of the source of realistic questions can arouse our thinking about the realistic questions; second, questions can be sought in the course of discipline development; third, questions can be found in extensive reading; and fourth, participating in "debate on literature and art debate" can cultivate our question consciousness. In addition, he suggested that in the creation and research, we should pay special attention to thinking about the theory and practice, extensive reading and times change, and depth of question and height of feelings.

In the exchange session, Xia Yisheng answered the questions about themes of literary and artistic creations, audience awareness and market orientation in a humorous way. "The creation of literature and art is not always 100% successful," he said. "This is a common phenomenon that won't change with thematic creation, because it's not a secondary product. Instead, it needs our patient irrigation and waiting like watering a flower, which finally reflects the spirit of the times."

President Huang Xin made a summary of the lecture. He said, the lecture given by Secretary Xia Yisheng is a bright light, a wisp of spring breeze and a "golden key". He hoped that teachers and students in HUTB can further study and implement the spirit of the important speech made by General Secretary Xi Jinping at the forum for literary and art work and his spirit of writing letters to all the editors of the Editorial Department of Literature, History and Philosophy, dare to undertake the mission bestowed by the times on literature, create more outstanding literary works in the new era, promote the great development and great prosperity of culture, and make new contributions to carrying forward Chinese civilization and flourishing academic research.
