Chen Xiaohong, HUTB Party Secretary and CAE Academician, Gives Thematic Party Lecture for Party Member Graduates

On the afternoon of June 18, Chen Xiaohong, HUTB Party Secretary and CAE Academician, gave a Party lecture themed by "Study Party History, Seek Innovation and Act Proactively to Become a New Generation Capable of Shouldering the Mission of National Rejuvenation" to Party members among the 2021 graduates. The lecture was held in the Lecture Hall, Economic Management Complex, and chaired by Vice President Gan Dejian, with attendees of Xiao Xiaoqin, Vice Party Secretary, and Gan Dejian, Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of HUTB, and all Party member graduates, representatives of outstanding graduates, leaders of the Party Committee Office and Principal Office, CPC Organization Department, Graduate School, Party Committee Student Affairs Department, Enrollment and Employment Guidance Division, etc., as well as vice Party secretaries and student Party branch secretaries of secondary schools, and instructors of graduating classes.
Chen Xiaohong elaborated on three aspects in depth, namely "persisting in the spiritual bloodline from a century of Party history", "working hard to build a powerful nation of science and technology", and "keeping up the momentum to draw up a beautiful blueprint for the future". She pointed out that at present, carrying out Party history study and education among all Party members is essential to staying true to the original aspiration and advancing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, to strengthening our conviction and commitment, upholding and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, to promoting self-reform of the Party and forever preserving its vitality. She described the Red Boat spirit, Jinggangshan spirit, Long March spirit, spirit of Zunyi Meeting, Xibaipo spirit, the great spirit in war to resist US aggression and aid Korea, the great spirit in the battle against Covid-19 and other spirits of the communists, introduced Hunan, the hometown of great man and generals, the sacred place for revolution, as an important place for mission germination and establishment of CPC, for strategic shifts of Chinese revolution and for forging the spirit of the Party. It's an incubator of the Party's ideological line - seeking truth from facts, and the place where "targeted poverty alleviation" was initiated. Chen also introduced the touching stories of academicians such as Deng Jiaxian, Guo Yonghuai, Cheng Kaijia, Yu Min, Yuan Longping, etc., encouraged everyone to cultivate profound patriotism, take loving science and exploring truth as a lifelong pursuit, always keep curious about and suspicious of science, constantly strengthen their cross-border integration thinking, foster team spirit, enhance confidence and courage in pioneering, and always preserve pure heart and striving spirit to make due contributions to building a powerful nation of science and technology.
Chen believed that China has developed its science and technology to a stage in a few decades, to which the Western developed countries have developed in hundreds of years. Looking back on history, sci-tech innovation always runs through national progress and national rejuvenation. From "independence and self-reliance" to "independent innovation", "building an innovative country", and finally "achieving sci-tech self-reliance and self-strengthening at higher levels", China's sci-tech innovation has always kept pace with the times and is increasingly prosperous. Chen described a large number of major sci-tech achievements China has made in "Two Bombsand One Satellite", manned spaceflight, Qinghai-Tibet Railway, BeiDou navigation satellite system, home-made aircraft carriers, G-series trains, Chinese bridge and supercomputing, as well as major innovation breakthroughs in big data, artificial intelligence, blockchain, quantum technology, brain science and other emerging information technology fields. She introduced the National Center for Basic Science of "Theory and Application of Resources and Environmental Management in the Era of Digital Economy", a project initiated under the leadership of individual and scientific research team, and a series of policy suggestions raised based on the national innovation-driven strategy that have been affirmed by the Party and State leaders, analyzed a series of challenges that China's innovation-driven developing is facing, and suggested that we should further strengthen the national strategic sci-tech power, stimulate the innovation vitality of talents, improve the sci-tech innovation chain and accurately grasp the development trend of cutting-edge technologies.
Chen stressed that in the new development stage, HUTB called for building a distinctive, innovative first-class university of technology and business at its first Party congress, comprehensively summed up its achievements and experience in business development, defined the goal of "three admissions and three highlands", determined the main tasks in the next five years and put forward a series of important measures to implement the "seven projects". By 2025, "peak" and "highland" disciplines will have been basically established, cultivation of high-quality innovative talents have yielded good results, significant progress have been made in sci-tech innovation; high-end scientific research achievements are constantly emerging, "four orientations" of social services have been effectively implemented, high-vision international school-running level has been significantly improved; high-efficiency internal governance has been fully realized, high-grade campus been fully completed and an innovative first-class university of business and industry with distinctive characteristics been basically completed. By 2035 or afterwards, we will strive to build a first-class university with comprehensive strength and core competitiveness at the forefront, build a beautiful university gathering masters and attracting students, and build a spiritually excellent university in persistent pursuit of truth, goodness and beauty.
Chen Xiaohong hoped that young Party members can grow into noble-minded and sentimentalized "university students", diligent and powerful "endeavourers", studious and passionate "seekers", and forward-looking and warm "transcenders". She encouraged everyone to develop their talents through innovation with profound patriotism, integrate the individual into the big picture of motherland, and strive to become endeavourers, pioneers and dedicators to serve the people and build a beautiful and prosperous country, thereby contribute their youth and strength to realizing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
The atmosphere at the scene was warm and thunderous applause rang out. All Party member graduates responded to Secretary Chen Xiaohong's ardent expectations, saying that they will stay true to their original aspiration, never forget HUTB, and strive to become ambitious, capable and responsible new generation with global vision, patriotism, professional quality and benevolence. Finally, all the Party members sang the revolutionary song, No New China Without the Communist Party, enthusiastically, and the lecture came to a successful end.
