HUTB Students Achieve Outstanding Results in the Final of “SFLEP Cup” China National College Student Contest in Cross-cultural Competency

From April 24 to 25, the final of “SFLEP Cup” China National College Student Contest in Cross-cultural Competency guided by China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), hosted by Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) and organized by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press (SFLEP) was held in Shanghai. The HUTB delegation was led by Shi Bo, Vice Dean of School of Foreign Languages. The HUTB student representative team guided by Wang Jing and Zhou Ling was awarded the first prize and “Best Cooperation Award”.

This year’s final was attended by 23 teams from colleges and universities in Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and Hunan. Through the sections of case analysis, Q&A, situation review and telling Chinese story, the contestants displayed their understanding of the concept and theory of cross culture, and actively spread Chinese voice to promote people-to-people and cultural exchange.
The contest is aimed at training talents in international communication innovation in line with the national strategy. Through the contest, HUTB aims to implement the higher education reform under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, and enhance the key competencies of students according to the national standard and basis requirement concerning undergraduate talent training quality. Through the contest, HUTB also hopes to promote teaching and study, foster a favorable atmosphere of cross-cultural teaching and study, improve the efficacy of college English teaching, enhance the cross-cultural sensitivity of students, increase students’ ability to analyze and solve a problem from the perspective of cultural difference, encourage students to seek continued self-improvement, and train foreign language talents with international vision and cross-cultural competency.
