Two New Undergraduate Majors Included in HUTB

Recently, according to the Notice of the Ministry of Education on Announcement of the Filing and Approval Results of Undergraduate Majors in Ordinary Colleges and Universities in 2020(JGT No. 1 [2021]), in addition to four undergraduate majors such as the Artificial Intelligence, Applied Physics, Supply Chain Management and Human Geography & Urban-Rural Planning which were designated in 2019, the Resources and Environmental Sciences and the Financial Technology are also designated as the undergraduate majors. So far, the number of undergraduate majors in HUTB has reached 55 (excluding 2 Sino-foreign cooperative education undergraduate programs).
Resources and Environmental Sciences is designed to closely follow the strategic needs of today’s ecological civilization construction for the renewable resource talents. Resting on the service for the economic and social development and ecological environment improvement of country, and relying on China’s first project of National Center for Basic Science in the field of resources and environment “Theory and Application of Resources and Environmental Management in the Era of Digital Economy” and the platforms such as Engineering Research Center for the ecological environment big data and intelligent decision-making technology of Hunan province, etc., the relevant resources are integrated under the leadership of Chen Xiaohong, HUTB President and CAE Academician to deepen the integration of science and education, production and education, and promote the interdisciplinary. Combining the new generation of information technologies such as the big data and artificial intelligence, the advantages and characteristics of intelligent resource environment shall be cultivated. The major is intended to train the talents of resources and environmental sciences oriented towards the innovation, entrepreneurship and application, engaging in the environmental monitoring and evaluation, planning and management, and comprehensive utilization of resources in the enterprise and public institution, with the professional skills in environmental monitoring and big data analysis, environmental simulation and planning, environmental resource assessment and comprehensive utilization.
Financial Technology is an emerging major that integrates the economics, finance, statistics, computer technology, especially the big data, blockchain, artificial intelligence and other disciplinaries. Based on the modern financial theory, this major is designed to conduct the quantitative analysis and creative design for the financial problems with the mathematical tools and information technology, meet the individual needs of market entities in the best way, and highlight the integrated application of modern technology in the financial field. HUTB is one of the first universities in Hunan Province to offer undergraduate major of financial technology. With the mission of serving the national financial strategy, facing the major strategic demands of our country's financial industry, this major is intended to promote the comprehensive digital reform and transformation and cultivate the financial elites systematically mastering the core knowledge of financial technology and engineering, with the abilities such as the solid mathematical foundation, financial data analysis and financial risk management, etc. and able to meet the demands of the banking technology, robo-adviser and programmatic trading, insurance technology, and regulatory technology.
In recent years, HUTB has closely followed the new round of scientific and technological revolution and the new trend of industrial transformation, and has strived to build a dynamic adjustment mechanism of majors as required by the economic and social development in accordance with the principle of "stock upgrade, incremental optimization, and margin reduction". This application of new majors is an important measure for HUTB to adapt to the development demands of the digital economy era, implement the construction requirements of the Ministry of Education for "New Engineering Courses" and "New Liberal Arts", and serve the construction of smart Hunan and ecological Hunan.
In the next step, HUTB will further break the barriers of disciplines and majors, adhere to the development concept of“equal emphasis on ‘engineering’ and ‘business’ withmutualintegration”, improve the "new technology courses + new business courses" and "technology + business" disciplines and majors system, and build a "student development-centered" talent training mode, vigorously promoting the construction of first-class undergraduate education.
