HUTB Students Performed Well in the 5th Hunan Provincial Essay Competition for College Students

From November 27 to 29, the 5thHunan Provincial Essay Competition for College Students hosted by the Department of Education of Hunan Province and co-hosted by HUTB was held in HUTB. 160-odd students majoring in Chinese language & literature from 32 colleges and universities in Hunan attended the event. HUTB contestants performed well in the competition, winning 1 first prize, 2 second prizes and 1 third prize.

 


As the top competition in the discipline of Chinese language in Hunan, the Hunan Provincial Essay Competition for College Students is composed of two components, that is written examination and defense. The result of written examination and defense accounts for 80% and 20% of total respectively. In the component of written examination, contestants were required to write a literature review of 1500-2000 characters on “Prelude to Water Melody-Sent to Ziyou on Mid-autumn Festival”, a Ci poetry written by Su Shi. After professional evaluation of the judges, Fan Yao, Chen Taizhao and Tang Yufei from HUTB, who have good humanistic literacy and writing skills, performed well in the written examination. Fan Yao also performed well in the component of defense, winning the first prize with outstanding comprehensive achievement.

 

HUTB attached high importance to this year’s competition. In late July, HUTB held 7 contests to select 10 excellent contestants from more than 300 participating students who intended to attend the provincial competition. 6 teachers from the School of Literature & Journalism, including Tang Zhaohui, He Yufei, Liu Xiangxiang, Chen Jingyi and Zhang Guoliang, provided professional training and guidance for the contestants from start to end.(Reported by Chen Jingyi from School of Literature & Journalism)
