President Chen Xiaohong Named on 2020 Highly Cited Researchers List

On November 18, Clarivate Analyticsunveiled the 2020 Highly Cited Researchers List. Chen Xiaohong, HUTB President and CAE Academician, was recognized on the 2020Highly Cited ResearcherList in the cross-field category, placing her in the list for three consecutive years.

Global scientistsand social scientists named onthe list have published multiple highly-cited papers, with frequency ranking 1% of the discipline, which demonstrates their important academic influence among peers. 6167 researchers from more than 60 countries and regions around the world were named on the2020list. The United States has2,650 researchers named on the 2020 Highly Cited ResearchersList, which amounts to 41.5% of the list. The university with the greatest number of Highly Cited Researchers is Harvard (188), as it has been in past years. The nearby Broad Institute and Massachusetts Institute of Technology have 61 and53 Highly Cited Researchers, respectively. These three institutes entered the list of leading global ones.
Mainland China has increased its share of Highly Cited Researchers List significantly in recent years: from 636 (accounting to10.2%)in 2019 to 770 (accounting to 12.1%) this year. In 2019 China overtook the UK as the second largest institutional home for Highly Cited Researchers. Mainland China is still ranked second this year. The Chinese Academy of Sciences ranks second in the number of Highly Cited Researchers. Tsinghua University saw a dramatic rise from the 19thplace in 2019 to the 9thplace this year. In the 2020 ranking of institutions with 24 or more Highly Cited Researchers, University of Science and Technology of China, Peking University and Zhejiang University also ranked top. Mainland China has 621 Highly Cited Researchers, who come from 123 colleges and universities. Among colleges and universities with Highly Cited Researchers from Mainland China, Tsinghua University heads the list (55), followed by University of Science and Technology of China (30) and Peking University and Zhejiang University(24 respectively).
