CAE Academician Sun Yongfu Pays Survey Visit to HUTB

On the afternoon of November 17, Sun Yongfu, former deputy executive minister of the Ministry of Railways, deputy leader and director of the General Office of the Leading Group for the Construction of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway of the State Council (ministerial level) and CAE Academician, paid a survey visit to HUTB.
Chen Xiaohong, HUTB President and CAE Academician, extended a warm welcome to the delegationled by Academician Sun Yongfu, and thanked his long-standing care and support for HUTB’s development. She elaborated on recent achievements made by HUTB in the fields of scientific research, discipline construction and talent training, especially the approval of the “Theory and Application of Resources and Environmental Management in the Era of Digital Economy” National Center for Basic Science, Hunan Province’s first national center. She pointed out that being committee to the “four orientations” put forward by President Xi Jinping, the center will implement the strategy of innovation-driven development, make full use of new-generation information technologies like big data, AI and block chain, nurture original achievements, and proactively make important contributions to address difficulties in the fields of resources, environment and energy in the era of digital economy. Academician Chen Xiaohong expressed the hope that Academician Sun Yongfu will continue paying attention to and guide HUTB’s development and its construction of the National Center for Basic Science.
Academician Sun Yongfu applauded HUTB’s quick development in recent years, and congratulated on the approval of the National Center for Basic Science led by Chen Xiaohong, HUTB President and CAE Academician. He pointed out that the establishment of the center means high requirements and new challenges for HUTB which is proactively serving the country’s major development strategy. He also pointed out that resources, energy and environment are major problems facing the world, and water resources, mineral resources and environmental quality pose a challenge to the well being of people. At the current stage, China still lacks a systematic research on the urgent issues of resources, energy and environment, which, if left unchecked, will put national security at risk. With the improvement of people’s welfare, to address the risk of national development and security is not only of significance for the country and its people, but also a core subject matter of research. He expressed the confidence that the center will deliver fruitful theoretical and application achievements under the leadership of Academician Chen.
Academician Sun Yongfu also visitedthe intelligent logistics laboratory and the ecological environment and big data analysis laboratory.
